Thanked: 0I think it's perfect. It's a one of a kind. And to think of all the leg work that went into it. How could he not love it. In my opinion I think the pictures could be misleading. you said that it was custom made so I would expect it to have not a perfect look as long as the artist knew what he was doing and it comes shave ready then you have nothing to worry about

Its a great looking razor. What utopian means is the line on the spine. Had it been a more uniform curve, it would be easier to hone.
But since your husband properly only is going to shave with it, he can have it honed professionally from time to time.
I to like the rustic look. It's also seen on kamisoris ( that's old Japanese razors.)

Just so you know..............I have a Jerry Stark razor and also I spoke with another gentleman that bought one recent and his as well as mine was not totally shave ready. Close, but not totally. I would maybe seek out someone knowledgable in your area if possible to test the edge. I had to put mine to the hones and I still have a toe issue where I think I may have to retouch the bevel to get right. The guy I know in England who bought also had same issues.
So be aware that while it states shave ready it may be close but needs just a touch of attention to get it there.
I only say this to make you aware it can be a great razor if truly shave ready. But you may get it in and it be truly honed to a "T" as I say and ready for whisker action!!!
Also, you will need if you do not get with it a T6 torx bit for lightly tightening the scales when they work loose. Mine did not come with the bit and I had to call Jerry direct to find out which size which he uses a T6. Jerry stated wood scales cannot be over tighten one bit for fear of damaging the scales. So be careful if you do need to tighten. My needed it because brand new when delivered the blade being so massive just fell open. I have the micarta resin scales which according to Jerry are a bit more sturdy than the wood when it comes to tightening.
Good luck and I am sure the hubby will smile ear to ear!German blade snob!

Thanked: 3Michael, the information you gave me was over my head. I will make sure I have my hubs read what you posted so he can look into the T6 issue. I will not attempt to find someone to hone it, the husband can do that (this is me passing the buck.) I am really glad to hear you like yours. Jerry was so easy to work with. Thanks for your help!

You wanted:
- "I want to find him a high quality razor that has a fancy handle."
- "I would say I am thinking under $300 USD."
You got:
- A razor of dubious quality, albeit with a fancy handle.
- Budget exceeded by US$ 50 or more (it will need professional honing, and Ron is spot on with his observation that honing this razor shaped object will require professional skills).
Quick summary: An interesting, unexpected choice. Good luck.Last edited by RobinK; 10-13-2015 at 03:16 PM. Reason: )

Maybe I missed a post but what has the OP decided? Curious to see what 9 pages of post and confusion will produce from the many picks and suggestions!!!!
