Thanked: 433To be on the safe side, if I was buying for someone I wouldn't go above 6/8" or below 5/8" blade width. You can't go wrong staying between 5/8"-6/8"

For a 6/8, Revisor has a lot of choice. For example:

..and you can speak to them about putting some nice streaked horn as the handle. Either way, you got some great advice here.As the time passes, so we learn.

Thanked: 3Okay, another question. Several posts have suggested that my husbands razor is a 5/8 and to go up to a 6/8. What would be the benefit of going up in size? I am thinking that if he likes a 5/8 he should have a 5/8, but I am not sure if it is an "eat your carrots" situation where you learn to love them over time and many arguments with your mother.
Thank you all for your help!!!

Well I can tell by your writing style and the fact he already has a straight that your not my wife...Darn.
I am thinking that if he likes a 5/8 he should have a 5/8
I personally would stay in the safe zone with the same size, that is not to say he wouldn't want to try a different one.
Think of his other hobbies, does he like trying different or does he stay tried and true or consistant?"When defeat comes, accept it as a signal that your plans are not sound,
rebuild those plans, and set sail once more toward your coveted goal."

I would try to take a few pictures if you can.
In response to your earlier question, weight isn't an issue per-se but balance is, a light razor with heavy scales or vice-versa will be harder to handle.
Have you looked at the revisor website, they have some very nice razors with a lot of options blade and scale wise. As I understand it they don't come necessarily shave ready so may need a professional honing but you have plenty of time to sort that out.
For the sort of money you want to spend you could get a razor you like and have it rescaled if you can't find exactly what you want.
Personally I think the Wade and Butcher you showed earlier looks horrible in those multi colored scales.
We have a member called mycarver who does some really nice carved scales. It really depends on what you want.Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

Sorry I see that you have posted some piccies. I honestly think that anything between 5/8 and 7/8 would be fine. 8/8 razors aren't too hard to manage but would be a bit more tricky.
From revisor the 6/8 size has a nice range.Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast
