Thread: Gold Dollars..which is the best?

True. However, at $3-5 (or less, if you look closely), what could possibly go wrong? Granted, you'll have to buy 100 razors. Then again, 1/3rd is typically shave ready out of the box. You can simply throw away the rest, and make a killer deal.
If... you want a razor that is soulless, classless, and, generally speaking, nothing but a tool. No history, no craftsmanship, nothing. Yet, good steel what holds an edge as well as any other razor I know.
Would I buy one? Absolutely not. Because I hate tacky razors, and the scales on these things are simply horrible.

Thanked: 2I find the Filarmonica has the tackiest scales I've ever seen but that doesn't stop them being a now very sought after razor.
Let's not forget that many of the razors that now command such high prices were once just everyday priced tools.
Not all, but very many.
I digress, I shouldn't defend the GDs though..I simply wanted a little more information on other models.

Well, this thread will escalate quickly. May I gently point you in the direction of the FAQ?
We believe that Gold Dollar razors are cheap. Apparently, they can be made to shave to some degree and with significant skills, but are not in general quality razors made from high quality steel. We therefore feel that we need to mention that we do not consider them to provide good value for money.
Since SRP is a site dedicated to the art of straight razor shaving and getting the best shave possible (not about getting the cheapest shave that is still somewhat acceptable), we have decided to limit the discussion of these razors to one master thread.

I have only seen 4-5 models in the GD. Your right, it is hard to locate info on them. But I believe there are about 10. These are the ones I know of by searching.
I own a 208 that I fiddle with now and then. 66-100 are $1.68-3.56 ea.
200-300 are$4.36-5.86 ea. 800 are $29.67-41.57. And the 900 averages $99.00-109.00
66 ss alloy
100 ss alloy
200 SS alloy
208 cs
300 ssalloy
800 ss advanced alloy ?
