    I had one of those. Don't buy it. The razor has seriously bad balance because the scales are Mammoth with ebony liners and very heavy. I got mine used and for a song and then I sold it off. Shaving and stropping and honing was an ordeal with it.

    Of course there's the longevity of the gold wash. it is a great shaver though. It should have an engraving of a Mammoth on one side of the blade.

    As many have said, you can find a razor you like (custom or vintage) and have it scaled in Mammoth for a fraction of that cost.

    Mammoth is quite common, 40,000 years old or not. I've had a few with mammoth scales. Nice, but nothing uncommon. Here is a Robert Williams frame back with mammoth, only frame back he ever did ;

    That's a bit steep...as said above go custom! Very nice character on that particular set of scales though!

    yes, that one is very uncommon Jimmy because it was made from Surface material which is obviously much rarer and in demand than the subsurface which is what you normally see like those Dovos. The fossilization process has started in yours giving you those colors which are the minerals leaching into the material. it will take many many thousands of years to reach well into the interior of the tusk to color the whole thing and then eventually turn them into stone like petrified wood.

    The same process.

    Invisible Edge has a TI Damascus listed with what they are calling legal ivory from African Elephants. For some reason I thought all elephant ivory was not legal.

    Notice the ad says, "This Damascus razor from Thiers-Issard sports scales made from legal ivory (African elephant) and comes with appropriate certification."

    If there is official documentation that it was harvested before the ban was instituted it is legal for them to sell. I'm not sure it is legal to export, at least not to the USA, We have some very stringent regulations on ivory.

    $1,595.83 USD ........ pretty healthy amount for a 6/8. Mighty pretty though

    You can sell ivory in the UK legally but it must be pre 1947 with documentation.
