Authentic Mammoth Ivory Scales
I was in Vegas this week and went into the Art of Shaving store and they noticed me gazing at the straights. I told them I like exotic scales and then they went over to the locked cabinet in the back and laid this before my eyes. This is authentic 40,000 year old Mammoth Ivory scales with certificate of authenticity. I almost fell over! Has some heft to it as well a polished surface. This was made by Dovo and only 50 units in the world. GOD I WANT IT!!!!!

Sleep on it...Just for a counterbalance (as if we need one in a moment of explosive razor lust), the razor is 'nice.' The scale material is amazing, beautiful, wondrous. The scales (on the razor) look kind of fat to me, out of proportion to the blade. This is a useless opinion, but without those, this site might become flaccid. The pinning looks kind of coarse also. Those razors are expensive. There are probably many alternatives at that price point.
If you want it, and have implored God to make it so...
On the other hand, if your post is a cry for help....Last edited by WW243; 11-08-2015 at 02:49 PM.

These scales were actually proportionate. But the outer sides are rounded and did have some weight. This is something you would keep as a collector and not use. When I say, "I WANT IT", its for the scales but I can't see me splurging on something I won't use. And to be honest the pricing wasn't bad considering the ivory. Was expecting in the range of 3k. But it was 800.00. Doable but I had other things to spend on in Vegas. I have enough razors. So it's a fact of being rational with frivolous spending is all.

Thanked: 2284OK I take my statement back. Don't buy it. You can get a custom made razor in Mammoth scales for that much.

Had a Dorco with mammoth ivory scales with a beautiful turquoise trim, was not over 400.0. So the cost on that was a bit steep, but it's what you want a to sp no at the moment, mammoth Ivory Is out there. Tc

Pretty interesting how mammoth ivory is more readily available than African elephant ivory. Prob cause mammoths are already gone. Nothing we can do at this point. I do have high respect for our present day elephants so better it wasn't that.

A lot of custom razor makers will make you up a set of mammoth ivory scales for way less than that.
This Buddel razor I had made has mammoth ivory scales.

Yes - I've seen a similar one at a store in Toronto.
Nice scales, unfortunately it comes attached to a Dovo, which haven't been in my good books for several years since they've been having some serious QA issues.
As mentioned, Mammoth ivory can be had, and custom scales could be made for pretty much any razor you wanted to dress up in a Prehistoric fashion....
