If there were a way to inform them that the least expensive route is probably go to the classifieds here and get something inexpensive but worth owning!
With a bit of literary license applied...There is hardly anything in the world that some man cannot make a little worse and sell a little cheaper and the Newbie who considers price only, is that man’s lawful prey. The easy road is rarely rewarding.

Yeah, but WAIT! At a dollar apiece, I can go through 300 GD's to your one 300 dollar Henckels!
That's it! That's the ticket!"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

Yes Bob. You may want to keep it, no doubt. I don't know why you would sell it. I know why I sold mine. It wasn't because it didn't shave really good (because it did) it was because I started collecting a specific brand so I sold most of my others off. I gave the Gold Dollar to a friend (if memory serves me). I must say that even though it had its issues I have experienced more warping and geometry issues from old vintage sheffields then I did that GD. You should definitely try one Bob.
What a curse be a dull razor; what a prideful comfort a sharp one

Thanked: 3224Good thing I have yet to find a specific brand that I would prefer over others, some day may be. Yes, I have had the same experience with old Sheffies in particular and others also. When I feel that I need more challenges than I already have a Gold Dollar razor should fit the bill nicely.
I would not advocate a Gold Dollar razor for a newbs first taste of shaving with a SR though. Especially one that has not been sorted out beforehand by a competent honer. Some of newbs are just bound and determined to learn by making mistakes regardless of any advice given to the contrary.

Thanked: 4826I must admit I have been curious about these. At some point I may delve into the world of Gold Dollars. In the mean time I have many vintage razors that need my attention.
