Default Your "Desert Island" razor ?

I am going on a Caribbean cruise shortly aboard a 42 ft ketch. I will shave, but not often. After pondering which razor to take I decided upon this W&B 7/8 near wedge in bone for the following reasons.

    (1) It delivers a fine shave.

    (2) It is rugged.

    (3) If lost or damaged I would be Pi**ed but not heartbroken.

    (4) If marooned upon a desert isle I may have to use it to open a coconut or feed off the carcass of a dead whale .

So this begs the question. What would be your "Wilson" razor, and why? And yes , I realize Tom Hanks never bothered shaving.

I assume you are talking about "If I could only have one razor in an emergency/disaster type situation". That being the case it would be a toss up between my Lakeside Cutlery Army/Navy and my Wade and Butcher. Do I get to keep my coticule and Illinois strop?

It's. Toss up between my Wostenholm I-XL and my Gilchrist. Probably go with the Wostenholm.

When travelling, you always have to take into account that it's highly possible that your blade could get lost, stolen, chipped, broken.... whatever. I have many razors that deliver a fantastic shave, some are very pretty and big. Some are small and really ugly. So my choice for a desert island razor would be my smilling Joseph Elliot wedge. It's pitted to all hell, it's in some wooden scales I made up for it and then realized I didn't really like them, and has an edge on it that is just phenomenal. If any of the above were to happen to this blade, I'd be a bit bummed, but then I would look at some of my more favourite razors and say "Thank god it wasn't you guys!"

The question of maintenance is fairly pertinent, if I couldn't maintain it then it wouldn't matter, however if I could then either the 11/16 I use for work or the almost 7/8 that is one of the two razors I have at home. Simply because they are easy to use. As a coconut opener etc I doubt many razors would cut the mustard.

Exactly why I would need my coticule and strop.

Yes, but those caveats weren't in place during the original musing....

Wirm, you better put some fine print in your original post to get these guys to post what you want.
