Will It be a WBINO ? Remains to be seen. Case knives sold the factory in the early '70s and they were a stodgy old bunch. Collectors were paying extravagant sums for old patterns (vintage) that hadn't been produced in decades. The new owners ran it into the ground and the workers bought it, kind of like Harley Davidson.

They recognized the demand for the old patterns, again like HD did for the custom motorcycles, and began producing them alongside of the regular stuff and brought the company back to popularity and prosperity. Pretty sure Zippo owns CaseXX now, or they own Zippo. Depends on the mindset of the people who are doing the planning. The fact they want to use the name might indicate a sense of what would most appeal to the lovers of the old blades.

Wade and Butcher in Name Only - I think you got it right with that and tied a bow on it - that's all it really can be....

I for one am not interested. They are bring back a popular name and that is all. We make the steel differently than we did 200 years ago. Labour was cheap and craftsmen aplenty. The name and logo are going to be the only real similarities.

It's kind of the same as what is going on with Le Grelot at the time. Maybe, like the "new" Le Grelot they have, besides new production, a stock of old blanks which can be interesting. If not, there's only the famous name, and a product not very different from the new Dovo's and TI's I guess.

I'm hoping for a few things.
1. No "made in china" it's a British company I would like it to stay that way
2. They keep at least some of the designs that made them famous.
3. High quality control and materials.

I think that would basically be most users hopes. Being a pessimist, I'm not counting on it but would be happy to be proved wrong.

A couple of thoughts on this:

- the notice seems to be generated in the UK - that's my assumption based on the words used and structure of sentences.
- if that's the case, does it suggest that the razors will be made in Sheffield? The only bulk manufacturers are in Germany and France so somehow they have to get set up with equipment and craftsmen for that to happen.
- unless of course there's no intention of manufacturing in large quantities and it's a couple of people working together having acquired the brand name somehow.
- I can think of only one person in the UK with the ability to even consider this as a venture - if it's him, the quality will be there.
- maybe we can all satisfy the desire for the Ottoman-Egyptian in future.

Just to muddy the water a bit. This fellow claims to own the cross and arrow trademark and that the new parent W&B company owned by Kentucky based Big Dog Cutlery only owns the Wade and Butcher name. I agree with Jimmy.

Pretty much all the old names/trademarks have been bought and are being used to sell a product that has no real resemblance to the original other than the name.

There is a consortium in Sheffield that grouped several of the old house names together and produces a limited number of knives. Quality is good, production is low, and prices are high.

Other names are being produced in China, The KISSING CRANE brand of Rob't Klass, Solingen is now a Chinese item. Knives are good, but they are not the knives that were built in Germany. Remington, Winchester, Camillus, and few others are Chinese now.

Case makes knives to look at and "collect". They issue 47 different sets of scales on the same frame so the "collectors" can have a full set. :/ As far as I'm concerned, Case quit making knives in 1969.

Just have to wait and see, but I'm not excited.

No idea where the new W&B is headed. I think Tom's idea is pretty much on the mark as well.

Hmm. I'm not sure that this site is legitimate. It's hard to tell but a whois lookup on the domain name wadeandbutcher.com yields some odd results. The domain is registered in Panama. They registrant uses whoisguard - which hides names of actual registrants. Some companies do this to keep spam down but it's not that common on legitimate sites. This could just be a scam to collect your email address by asking you to sign up for their newsletter.
