Thanked: 101I have a R.H. & Sons Ltd. 5/8" with a thumb notch. The blade has "For stiff beards" etched on the front & No. 250 on the back. It is a really heavy & stiff blade that was hard to get a great edge on. I worked a long time in the 3K to 5K. range & then worked up to my 16K Shapton. Stropped on Shell horse hide strops & all I can say is WOW! My neices husband got this at a boot sale in England while in the USAF.

Got this one a little bit ago - W. Greaves & Sons with the thumb notch. I just cleaned it up a little to get the rust off and left it at that. The scales are good shape and all original pins and collars so I didn't see a need to unpin. Gave it a soak in neatsfoot oil for a few days to rehydrate the scales, some 1000 & 2000 grit hand sanding the active rust followed by Mother's polish to shine it up. Just came off the hones, good to go!
