Thanked: 45Once my initial buying craze was satisfied and I had dialed in what I liked and what I didn't, it became a bit easier. Once my appetite for general variety was appeased, I then started to focus on individual acquisitions (i.e. a certain scale material, maker, either vintage or new, etc.). Once I had most of those materials in the collection (though 1 notable material is still absent), I began to focus on pure value...so there is now really not ever a need to over-pay. I still have a number of things on my list, but I can wait for them to get the value I feel necessary to make the purchase. There are also some individual razors I am willing to pay well for, given they are in the right condition.
Fact of the matter is that if you are willing to pay, you can have virtually any razor instantly. If not, a little luck, good timing, right place/time is needed.

Thanked: 39Well, I had the snake bite me this morning, I received a nice Clauss 5/8ths Round Point ( The Magnetic Razor) that I had bought for less than $25.00 and this morning on a new listing a even better Clauss 6/8ths Square point shows up, we offer, counter offer a couple of times and in the end I get it for $28.00 including shipping which was less than $3.00. Now I have to sell the 5/8ths so I break even. BTW, no Box for it, Looked everywhere for one and it seems like they don't exist. Oh, Well. But I have a VERY nice Clauss Freemont razor on the way. If anyone wants to know the sellers name PM me, She has a lot of straights for sale, some in good shape others in not so good shape. So I am still working on the RAD, But I HAVE kept myself from hitting the "Buy it Now" button on quite a few razors, it was close, but when the shipping is that $6.80 stuff I was able to stop myself. It is helping in the RAD problem by refusing to pay for any razor that the folks are charging more than $4.00 in shipping for. The $6.80 shipping charge has put a bunch of razor over my limit.

I don't mind this charge if indeed they ship 2 day priority USPS for this is the actual cost of the service. I hate when they charge this or more and indicate it will be shipped 1st class or economy! I will not buy their wares then for they are clearly trying to recoup the back end in price!

Thanked: 39I haven't had any problems with folks using just the brown padded envelope, It helps to be friends with the postal ladies. (A very nice group of people). Off topic, I wish folks who get animals would be friends with them and treat them nice. I have the neighbors dog sitting right here next to me just a whinning, They don't give him much attention and leave him outside in the weather, his dog house is too small for him, I also have another neighbors $800.00 Rag Doll cat that has decided to adopt us, she has been in our garage for the past 2 weeks,. They bought this girl as a kitten, and didn't house train it properly and then kicked outside, so now she lives in their landscaping bushes. I give her lots of attention and she loves it. It is a shame.

I don't mind the brown envelopes either.............but if you charge me USPS Priority prices, then ship it that way! But like I sated, you can easily see when they are padding the back end and heavily at times when you buy something small and they want to charge like $15 to ship economical!!!! Seriously!
Now to your second point...........I agree totally! Most people in this country do not need animals for they cannot or will not take care of them properly and that goes beyond food; shelter; and attention! It includes regular vet visits. People just do not think this stuff through and are idiots quite honestly! We have three dogs all of which more than likely get better medical care than I....LOL! We have a cat as well who resides and loves the outside. She has my shop to get under and loves it there and is always fed and watered. We also have a crazy African Grey parrot who will more than likely outlive me and the wife! That bird is nuts but a hoot to talk to!
So yes, I have a soft heart for animals that are not taken care of. In my old age I even feel sorry for the poor wildlife when I see it splatted on the road! I saw a fawn the other day that had been hit and killed and it really was sad to see a baby deer that had been killed just because the roads are so busy now with over population!German blade snob!

The next time someone on Eboy overcharges for shipping and it gets yer goat consider the commercial world where overcharging for shipping and making the shipping department turn a profit is very common.
I don't know how many times I've paid for shipping and I could have shipped the item in the same manner for way less than the company does and they get big discounts on volume shipping.
Yet you don't see many complaints but when an individual on Eboy does it folks are up in arms.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

I guess I am a rare nut job then! I also look at online retailers and if they charge way over for shipping that I know is a padding feature I simply do not buy. I treat them like the Bay crowd. But if they are shipping in a manner and charging for the actual expediency it will arrive then I am happy to do so. This stuff where they charge for handling is a joke to a degree. I don't mind a dollar or two tacked on for your private box or tape to tape it up but when you charge me $5 and above for a 50 cent box and 5 cents worth of tape on the mega roll I can read in to what you are doing and refuse to shop them.

Thanked: 3215Yea, the 6.80 for Priority (2 day, often 1 day) Mail is a good deal. And they give you the box, that is perfect for razors. Packed in a zip lock and crumpled or shredded paper is a great container. It is tracked and insured for 50 bucks and worth the extra couple dollars.
I have shipped tons of razors Priority Mail and not lost one yet, occasionally they get side tracked, but often are delivered next day.

The best way to Send a razor is in the 6.80 box. Tracked and insured, not bad for insurance plus the mail lady picks it up at the house no fuel involved. If this is too much for you to pay so be it. But it's not outrageous or over charging, it's what it cost. I understand saving money, I really do, but it's not a ripoff if some one charges for their time. If you worked for a living you should understand this, cause you accepted a paycheck, so unless you were overcharging for your time, I would think you should agree it's fair. Or just not buy from someone who will ship it safely and take your chance. But I guess there's not much risk in a cheaper razor. Tc
