English customs
Has anyone come across Edward Brice of Kent, England? I have just checked out his website and some of his razors look very nice.

He does fancy spine work which is a turnoff for me. All those holes are just moisture traps.
I really like the red/yellow scales but why would he put pits on the blade. Another moisture trap.
Some of the other blades look very well done.If you don't care where you are, you are not lost.

Thanked: 4249Seems that he is kinda new to the custom razor world. Furthermore just like a knife maker going to custom razor World, they always try different things like spine work, holes, etc etc instead of making what worked for hundreds of years.

I thought I saw the dark bladed one with the red-to-orange gradient scales on here about 6 months or so ago?
He does mention that he started using straights which got him into custom work, which is promising for their functionality.

For the most part not my cuppa tea as are most custom razor offerings that I have seen. That is just me and razors of that style are selling well enough. So long as the basics are correct, blade geometry/grind, hardening and steel, the rest is down to personal taste.

Thanked: 4828I think they would be worth a closer look, however he has nothing on the for sale page, so we can only speculate as to what the prices are.
I like the look of some of them. Actual wedges and thin flexing scales. Although most are too fancy for me, there was potential there. As Bob said, it is all about getting the unseen stuff right. It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

I actually made an online enquiry today, seeking an estimate for a 6/8 in hardwood scales without such scrolling or decoration to spine etc. He confirmed that he would be happy to make something to my specifications, and the price he quoted was probably equivalent to a Nate's Straight. I reckon I'll be following this up in the near future. As to the ornamental nature of the gallery; I think it's common practice with most artisans to display their most elaborate work, it's not my taste either but I won't let that put me off!
