Thread: French tip FBU

Otay. Here I brought in my old FBU. Not the biggest, a bit over an inch total. Has some even honewear approaching moderate. The scales were on it as I received, yet the top was pinned with a nail....
Had to redo the top pin and find some proper period collars for the top. That's it. No frills.
I am fairly certain the scales are original and in original configuration.
The blade tucks in right close to the wedge, so I feel this one is Kosher.
So in measuring, let's start with those scales... I see 127/128 mm pin-to pin centers.
Now the blade. about 125 mm from the center of the top pin to the outermost bottom of the blade.
And as to the cutting edge. I can proclaim 76 mm or 3 inches. The bevel runs up the toe and up the heel a bit.
You be the judge!
So anyway, these things were made by hand with lots of hands into the final product.
Even as-new, I expect there were some variations.
A point like the one in the OP is not original, I think? I would call it a slash-point rather than French.
If I was to cut/grind this one same, as shown by the clip, the length from top pin center to bottom tip would stay same...
Who knows?

Thanked: 3215Don’t know if it’s original, but it is very cool.
I am a big fan of spikes and now thinking of modifying some of my WB notched, beaters…
Where’s that angle grinder?...

Thanked: 237Thanks guys. I think if it's not original, it was done by an expert, a very long time ago. It's very cool indeed, now I just need to hone her up!

I dig things like that. Something customized or reground back in history is sweet!
They usually shave a treat as well!

Sorry...Bored..
So old modded W&B wide ones can be a hobby to some sicko people.
They even sometimes modify them more! Those are cool!
Hone it up!
Enjoy!Last edited by sharptonn; 10-28-2016 at 03:48 AM.
