    Default French tip FBU

    I got a really, really good deal on this FBU. I know they aren't all that "rare", but I haven't seen nearly as many spike points as I have round, and even fewer seem to have no barbers notch. I haven't seen any, haven't looked that hard I guess, that have a French point. Any one else have any like this (phrank)??

    I wonder if that was not 'created'?

    My thoughts exactly,, seems like it was altered. Tc

    Wow, that didn't even cross my mind. Hmmm. Well the grind marks and oxidation are uniform throughout the entire blade, so if it was "created" it was a long time ago. Can anyone give me some measurements from their fbu? Heel to tip from the edge side and spine side? I really don't think it was altered, but I could be wrong.

    I don't have mine here to measure, but looking at the etch, it is not centered, like this?

    It seems dead center to me.

    If anything, the stamp would be closer to the end, but measuring from the center line of "hollow ground razor" is within a mm of being equally spaced.

    The distortion in the pic isn't helpful as far as showing it in a picture. The edge is exactly 3". I guess it could have been ground down into a French without losing any blade length?

    I will drag mine in to-morrow and we shall measure...
    Either way, a nice blade!

    My hope was that someone else had one like it. Then you and Tc have to go and scare me!

    Thinking I agree with Tom, that looks modified, some repair work may have been done...who knows? Either way, you should send it to me for final determination....

    I have two 9/8 spike points, one is a Celebrated FBU, here's a couple of pics;

    Well, if it was cut right across the notch at a slant it might still be centered well.
    I have had many modded hollow-ground FBU's through my hands. I just don't think it is in it's original form there.
