OK, a little cryptic for me so I take it you did use a rolling X stroke?

For the majority of the grinding away at this vastly concave/convex blade I used two hands, going back and forth on a well-worn 180 Atoma. Eventually I realized that the heel wasn't going to obtain an edge on the concave side without a little rocking motion.

Thanks for the reminder for why I stay away from this forum for months on end. I shall remember your kind words the next time I think about visiting this place again. You are indeed a "veteran mentor" of the utmost repute.

Think that was just a bit of ribbing....

There are tons, and tons of threads here, Lynn, Glen and others have provided loads and loads of video tutorials on honing razors, the use of "honing gymnastics" that are required when you get razors, which are usually most of them, seldom to you get the "perfect" razor, that would have guided you through the process...just have to use the SEARCH field at the top right.

This has happened to us all...take a step back, do some research, and move on....all good.

We've all been there...I destroyed a razor, turned it black, when I saw a tiny water spot on it, just wanted to remove it, an hour later...it looked like it had been buried in a lake for 100 years.....

Lord have Mercy. All the new guys want to 'straight hone'.
They need a 3 inch strop.
    How they roll!

Too much advise obtained with a simple search.
    Oh well!

It's Unfortunate that this blade has some bad geometry, but flat, back and forth strokes on a highly aggressive stone is not the answer. IME with blades like this, it takes a little hand dancing to obtain an even bevel on both sides.

In a nut shell, On the concave side you need to roll down, and on the convex side you roll up.

Like what has been said, there are plenty of threads on honing razors, warped like this one.
    Here's some for you.

Or, you could just chuck it and find a razor with good geometry.
    Not so hard to find?
