From what I've read over and over and over and over and over again is don't buy a newly made TI.

For $200 US??????? See if you can find anything here that catches your eye for that much.

I am glad you were finally able to get an edge on the razor. It is a tribute to your persistence.
You might want to send the photos of the "finished" razor to Classic Shaving along with your "gratitude" for shipping you a razor of such "pristine" quality. (Sarcasm intended).

I really don't understand how I could have received a near-perfect razor from them and they then turned around and shipped you a poor razor followed by one that was "pure rubbish" as our British friends would say.

Even though your razor will never be attractive, I hope you can get a decent shave from it. The Le Grelot steel, when straight, takes a good edge. It is a shame P. Hospital is no longer in business.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Even though that razor looks to me like it has grind problems I would not have ground away without tape on the spine on that Atom plate going straight back and forth. Personally I would have taped the spine and set the bevel on a 1K Naniwa using a rolling X stroke till it was set. Takes a lot of time and patience but would avoid the massive amount of spine wear that is now on that razor. A razor with that kind of problem is not a candidate for straight back and forth honing.

That is like buying a quad and then taking a huge angle grinder to one of the wheels because you think it should have only 3 wheels.

Btw I don't necessarily think there was a huge flaw in the razor. Once you start to put uneven pressure on the spine, or use different pressure for up and down stroke, it is very easy to turn a good geometry into a bad one. A new razors should NEVER see a 180 Atoma up close.

    Razors of Revisor

TI razors can be a bit of hit or miss. I purchased a Sheep and Wolf razor from Smallflower in Chicago. It is a beautiful razor with no noticeable flaws. It came shave ready from the factory and is a great shaver. However, I understand that their quality control is no better on their high end razors than it is on an inexpensive one. This is my only TI, so I have not experienced the quality variance personally.

I purchased a Wacker Old Sheffield from Matt at Griffith Shaving Goods. At my request, Matt inspected the razor before shipment, but did not hone it. It arrived earlier this week and is a wonderful razor. It was not quite shave ready, but that deficiency was soon corrected on my finishing hone. Once fine-tuned, it is a superb shaver. If you are interested in the details of my experience, you can check out my Wacker Old Sheffield thread. Matt's service was excellent; I do not hesitate in recommending him.

I do not yet have a Revisor as the shipment would have to go through the USPS customs facility at Chicago O'Hare. The shipment from Germany may take a few days, but clearing customs can take weeks.

Have passed on 2 used new production TI over the past few months. Both had uneven bevels, 1 had excessive hone wear similar to the OP.
Definitely something lacking in QC when you compare them to a Ralf Aust.
