Thanked: 59Lets face it, these damn razor companies started getting pretty damn greedy after the injector and it only been getting slowly worse over the years. I don't care how many blades they put on the end of a piece of plastic. I'd rather spend the $25 on a nice new soap instead of maybe a pack of 3 cartridges for the same price, hell, my wife used to use them like they were free. Sure I'd love to have the most awesome transformer based razor that undulates and vibrates with, what is it up to now, 5 blades? But, spending WHAT!? kind of money on cartridges? Forget it!

Thanked: 31I don't know. I have several Dovo razors and one Ralf Aust. The RA is VERY nice in most regards, but the rapid oxidation of the blade (lots of small rust spots developed while shaving, four times in a row) gave me pause. To me Dovo is the most solid brand I have tried so far (I also had a TI that did not work out). Maybe my RA will grow on me, and perhaps the oxidation will die off as it gets some patina, but this was a bit of a shocker, as I actually also bought oil to protect it and have been quite careful about it. It could be that the steel is different, or perhaps the razor was just too raw out of the grinding and polishing, so it attracted rust very quickly when actually used with water during shaving.

Thanked: 3228Never realized there was so much fear and trepidation connected with DE razors. Been using those on and of since the late 1960s so by now it does not faze me. I am still far more careful with a straight razor because they will cut you, or at least me, easier than a DE will. Yet another YMMV facet of wet shaving.

Thanked: 1When I'm in a hurry I use the Muhle R41 (the only safety de I enjoy) otherwise I go with one of my straight razors.

When i started DE shaving i was told the R41 was the most blood thirsty razor made. I bought one and got great close shaves and never had it draw blood. JMO.
Id recommend buying vintage razors. Cheeper and better quality as far as im consered. Good luck in whatever razor you buy. It's just Sharpening, right?

I agree vintage CAN be cheaper , but better quality? trust me I,m a fan of my Gillette Fatboy used one for more than 40 years I have no experience with cartridge razors at all, I used a single edged Bic in basic cause that was all we could use, but after basic I went back to my Fatboy, but better quality than say a Wolfman? no,, or than some of the other offerings out there today? No
a great shave can be had with a DE I get just as good from a straight or DE, and like Bob my experience comes from shaving with them since the 60,s. as for blood letting that's all in technique just like a straight, you must learn the razor and your face, the more aggressive razors I don't seem to have as much problem as I do with less aggressive razors ,, I believe I start adding pressure to compensate for the shave not being as smooth. I use a Fatboy on 9 and Feather blades , and I can honestly say after 40 + years shaving with it the only times I cut my self were doing hangover shaves or having the door swung open into my back. ( newlyweds and an apartment that you could do the dishes , make the bed, and shave without moving more than 5' away) Tc“ I,m getting the impression that everyone thinks I have TIME to fix their bikes”
