Safety Razor vs Straight razor
Hey guys,
Just curious who prefers which type of razor. Do you use both or are you hard one side or the other?

I enjoy both. I have a few DE razors and a lot of straights. I use the straights more because I can get a closer shave. I enjoy taking the fat boys and slims out every now and then. Enjoy.

Thanked: 3228I use both DEs/SEs and straight razors. I get equally good results with both types but prefer the straight razor shave experience a little more. I never take my straight razors with me when I travel. They are just too much of a pita to take for me with the extra gear needed to maintain them while away. Just easier and quicker to use a DE or disposable (going by air) when travelling.

Thanked: 292I like shaving with a straight, but I have a difficult time getting a close shave on my chin and jawline with just a straight. Thus, I often shave WTG and ATG with a straight and then do a cleanup pass with the DE.

Thanked: 4I do not have a DE so I have just had to resort to being a contortionist with how I hold my razor. Sometimes if need be, I will use my shavette in a couple trouble spots. But since going from my Ralf Aust 5/8 to a RA 6/8, I seem to do better.
I have thought of a Feather Popular for those spots of mine. But I seem to do well enough as it is.

Thanked: 286I,m the type of guy that users straight razor no matter what. Don't get me wrong modern day blades are superb, but I feel straight razors once mastered are a joy to use and I consider it an art to use one.
So I prefer a straight razor .

Thanked: 4828DE razors scare the pants off of me. I have tried them a few times and thought they may be better for travel and such, however they have cause me too much blood shed. I have a few wedge style safety razors and a couple of SE safety razors that see very occasional use, but by a long shot I use a straight. The wedge razors I have are by Henckels and they do a fantastic job.

I have an equal amount of DE's and straights, and it just depends on the day what I shave with. If I'm pressed for time I always use a DE. I can get a BBS shave with both.

I prefer the straight, but I have a DE for travel and for touch ups when I'm having an off day.

I used to only shave with a straight, and occasionally a Merkur 37 slant when I was in a hurry, now I shave with a variety of DEs and straights. There are so many wonderful new stainless DEs, Timeless, Blackbird, Wolfman, Above the Tie, Rockwell 6s. So many great blades. A true renaissance in wet shaving.
