For people too young to have started out DE I imagine it can be daunting. When I was 14 or 15 in 1963, and wanted to start taking the peach fuzz off, the DE was the go to shaver. Never forget the first time I was wiping the canned goo off of my cheek with a Gillette DE and it bit me. Boy that stung ! Gave me respect for that contraption.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Yea, I have to remember that most people come from using a cart or electric shaver today. That could be the reason YMMV. You'd probably have to go back one or two generations before me to find someone who started on straight razors. Good thing is that means I am not quite older than dirt yet.

I like both double edged safety and straights.

If I'm in a hurry, I use a double edged safety. One of the things I like about classic shaving is that it requires skill and technique.

I enjoy straights more as they take more skill.

I use both SRs and DEs. When I'm in a rush, it's a DE. As other posts have stated, it's a great time for being a wet shaver. There are some modern DEs on the market now that are excellent and cater to different shaver's desired aggressiveness. DEs that I have are ATT, Charcoal Goods, Wolfman, and a Feather DS, and they all are superb performers! Bullgoose's Asylum SE is another outstanding performer for me as well. Also have some wonderful SRs--new and old. No RAD here.....

Changing it up and having choices in both our hard and software keep this sport interesting and fun!

I use straights because I like the shave it gives and the quality time doing it right. Maybe once every 3 weeks I take my Mongoose or Merkur Futur for a spin. It's like resting my face.

Default Safety Razor vs Straight razor

To me Dovo is the most solid brand I have tried so far (I also had a TI that did not work out). Maybe my RA will grow on me, and perhaps the oxidation will die off as it gets some patina, but this was a bit of a shocker, as I actually also bought oil to protect it and have been quite careful about it. It could be that the steel is different, or perhaps the razor was just too raw out of the grinding and polishing, so it attracted rust very quickly when actually used with water during shaving.
Yes, I am aware of your related thread elsewhere on this forum, but I am also aware that the replies indicate that other Ralf Aust users do not appear to share your unique problem.
