    Default New Wapiencia.....!

Recieved yesterday. Shipping time from Poland was 16 days. Not bad!

I read the entire thread in Ebay/Aution wanting to get an idea how others had honed it. The consences was that it would hone easily producing a great edge, and would shave great. I don't use a Norton. I have a blue Belgium and a Yellow(+ barber hone & a 1200 DMT). I started with 15/15, 10/10, 5/5, 3/5, 1/5, 1/5. - then about 50 on the Coticule w/slurry, and finished with about 60 on the Coticule w/ water. The edge felt great! Under the microscope the bevel was narrow and totally black, good. The edge had a very tiny bit of sparckle, but it was late and I was anxious to try it in the morning. I got up, stropped her 20 times on linen and 60 on the leather, per Alex(LX). Wow! What a great razor!! The shave was very comforitable and the razor performed super. Not my sharpist, but I'm gonna take her back to the Coticle today for some tune up, looking to remove those last few sparckles on the edge.

It's a little heavy in the handle and someday when I'm comforitable replacing scales, I'll buy her something nice that she deserves.

    * You guys were right! A great razor for newbees and even you that are experienced. Probably the best bang for the buck out there.

    Regards,

    Steve

My Wapi is outstanding! Really love it and you're right, a great razor period. I honed mine on the ole barber's hone and it's a great shaver. Everyone should try one (IMHO) - at that price how could you lose?

I'm thinking of getting one for my father as an introduction to straights (now that he's retiring). Yes, I'm a cheapskate - but they sound like such an excellent deal. One of the things I like is that I could probably get the scales engraved for him.

Do you guys have any opinions on whether the metal scales are a good or a not-so-good thing as a first razor for someone? Has anyone engraved the scales?

    James.

Yep I liked the Wapis so much I got 4 of them. Another little know wonder of a razor are the Sanguine razors. Their blades are alittle wider than the Wapis and may be closer to a 7/8. They also hone and strop quick and easy. I got three of them and they all shave like a dream. Might not be the ticket for those who have goatees and mustaches as the blade is big and will shave anything within reach. I added a pic of one of my Sanguines to show the blade size comparison to one of my wapis and my vintage Thomas Turner which is a 7/8. They also come at a great price, 13.00 to 15.00 us dollars.

    Hi James,

I have just bit the bullet and taken the plunge with one of these. It arrived last week actually, and hey for the dollar value you sure can't do any better.

It could do with a bit of a polish up, the scales have minor scuff marks on them which with a bit of Autosol or Mass I think it should come back to mirror gloss finish again.

It has a nice weight to it, but as yet still untried, and they certainly don't come shave ready anymore. I'm waiting for a Norton to arrive before I attempt to hone it.

It should come up really tops with an engraving on it James, and I'm sure you'll want one for yourself as well.

    Cheers
    John

    James,

I just ordered a Sanguine. Yep, I'm hooked! - but for the price, why not give it a try. That's how we discover great things.

    Regards,

    Steve

    Estroncio,

If you're refering to the Wapienica, no, it does not come in a box. The "Sanguine" that I ordered does, though.

BTW, I was able to get the Wapiencia absolutely "scarry" sharp today. Me, a rookie! I had the best shave of my life! It was so good, that just one WTG was almost BBS. The only reason I did a second was because I had so much beautiful Tabac shave cream sitting there beckoning me to use more of it.

They hone up so well and perform so well, I think it's great for a newbee's confidence, besides becoming a great shaver.

    Regards,

    Steve

Thats great to hear, Steve! Estroncio, the Wapis come wrapped in plastic and some come in a plastic bag, the blade well oiled. The Sanguines come in a small box, also wrapped in plastic and oiled.
