Interesting, Sharptonn. These scales are so unique to the razor that I'd love to see them saved.

I finally found one after several years of searching, got one somewhat under the radar, scales were pooched, but the owner in France tried to maintain some integrity on them by gluing the old name section on some faux ivory scales, here:

Sent it then to SRP member karlej, and Karl performed his magic, went for some period tortoise scales, and finally have this masterpiece. To have one all original, that would be the ferkin' Bee Knee's, hard and rare to find in that condition, but if you do, never let it go, and yes, I've only ever suffered seller's remorse, cash can always be replaced, rare razors...seldom:

All of their razors were top of the line made with precious materials such as silver, ivory, alligator skin boxes, etc. The following is taken from their web site since the OP asked. Other Mappin & Webb items are also very collectible such as luggage, silverware, personal grooming items, watches, and many other items commanding high dollar price tags. Enjoy.

“Mappin & Webb is a true British treasure with over 241 years of tradition and historical significance in the world of silver and jewellery. Renowned for combining timeless craftsmanship with superior quality and contemporary design, for over two centuries we have produced exquisite jewellery, elegant silverware, watches, glassware and the unique lifestyle accessories that have long been at the heart of affluent British society.....

1904 - The Maharaja Raj Rama Bhawaur Singh was so taken with Mappin & Webb's exquisite silverware that he commissioned a complete silver bedroom service, including a four-poster bed, tables and chest of drawers, all lavishly decorated with cherubs. Displayed in the window of the Oxford Street boutique, it drew such a great crowd of curious onlookers that the police requested its removal in the interests of public safety....

1911 - Started an enduring tradition of creating commemorative silver pieces for landmark Royal occasions....

1960- Mappin & Webb serviced Winston Churchill's pocket watches and produces solid gold ashtrays for his political office....

2012 - The company's longstanding royal connection was further cemented by the appointment of Mappin & Webb's master craftsman in 2012, to the position of Crown Jeweller. The Crown Jeweller is the custodian of the Crown Jewels and is responsible for preparing them for the State opening of Parliament and other state occasions. The appointment of Mappin & Webb's craftsman to the role of Crown Jeweller is a great honour for this truly British brand....

Mappin & Webb's relationship with the Monarchy began in the late 19th Century and was formalised when Her Majesty Queen Victoria first granted a Royal warrant to Mappin & Webb as silversmiths, in 1897, the year of Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee. Mappin & Webb has held a Royal warrant as Silversmiths to each of the five subsequent sovereigns. Today the brand holds a
Royal Warrant as Jewellers, Goldsmiths and Silversmiths to Her Majesty The Queen and as Silversmiths to His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales.”

A very rich history indeed. The ivory sets I have in alligator skin and rare wood boxes are some of my favorites because of this history.

You see, a razor can be a simple inexpensive tool and it can also be much more. YMMV (That’s for you Ace)
    Well-DONE!

Lovely piece of kit ! Very nice re-scale job , looks nicely period !
I tried to persuade Sergejs to make me a lancet with buffalo scales but he wasn’t too enthusiastic so bagged a very nice tungsten with rams horn as a concellation prize !

Ha! Yes, he made one of them a long time ago, I snatched it up as I thought it was the closest I was going to come to one, believe there are a couple of others. He told me it was a very intricate grind, and not one he relished doing again. Beautiful razor, and he is an absolute master in my opinion:

Ahhhh it was you ya bugga ! Yes he was most indifferent at the prospect of producing again and I got most distinct vibes that despite my persuasion it wasn’t going to happen !
I wanted him to do in tungsten with a gun stock black and white streaked buffalo scales! Ho-hum would of been a thing of beauty!
If you ever wish to part with that one let me know !

Yup, Tungsten, all my razors from Sergej are Tungsten, closest thing I've felt to original Sheffield steel....with the added Escher edge....my favourite.

Well - not that I needed but consoled my disappointment with a nice classic 6/8 tungsten with rams horn scales ! Did get I at a very nice price as a get out for not having to grind another lancet ! Funnily it was this image I sent Sergejs - think it obviously sent a chill down his spine when he saw it again!

Congrats - I don't think you can go wrong with anything he makes, especially in the Tungsten IMO.

Classic lines, intricate grind work, he really does beautiful work....sheesh, I've got 4 of them, the last one he did was his homage to this 9/8 Wade & Butcher (pic attached) chopper that I have, one of my favourite razors, and he did a spectacular job, or as he told me, he "improved" on it! :-)

Very nice re-scale on the original! Think I saw an image of Sergejs replication whilst searching for info on the lancet ( yep nice work indeed)
This was the runners up prize ! I really like its simplicity and clean lines! If it shaves like the 8/8 I have it’s a definate for ever keeper!
