Thanked: 15My dads razor....I know nothing about this...can you give me your opinion?
Hi, My father went to barbering school in 1962. He has a strop and razor put aside for me since I was a hairdresser. We suffered a terrible loss by my dads sudden passing in March of this year. My dad was all about his tools and knives and blades. I would appreciate your opinion on his razor. I have tried to read about them on the internet, but I decided to join this site and ask people who know their razors....thanks in advance.....

Sorry for your loss.
Bartmann is a good razor. Yours has some condition issues. I could recommend having it disassembled and cleaned-up. The blade etch should be preserved.
The rust and pitting on the edge needs to go. Some honing will be required to get past that.
The scales may be deteriorating. The gases they put out will cause the blade to rust. Box is from another razor.
Are you going to shave with it or display?"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

First and foremost, my condolences on your loss.
I personally don't have any knowledge of your father's razor but keep the faith as it's amazing how many here can be of help. Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

Hello
Very sorry for your loss.
The razor is a great candidate for a restoration.
Hopefully you will learn to shave with it. If not it will still be a great display piece that holds a precious memory.
Whatever you decide to do, all the information and answers to your questions is right here.
Good luck and thanks for sharing.

Sorry for your loss my friend.
Welcome to SRP. You have come to the right place that will help teach you how to get it restored and/or how to use it if you feel you want to learn.
I recommend that you find a member here that is willing to do a restore job on it, as being a beginner, it's not something you want to do on your own on this razors. It is a fine razor, good name brand and something that a lot of folks would enjoy having in their collection.
As Tom said, the box is not the correct box for the razor. So if you're just going to display it, you might be able to find the correct box. But it will take some time. Enjoy your time here. Let us know if you plan on learning to use it and we will get you started in the right direction. It's just Sharpening, right?

Thanked: 15Thank you Sharptonn
Thank you for your kind words. Since I am reluctantly going through my fathers possessions because my mom has to move, I will keep an eye out for the proper box if he has it. There may be a few other razors also. Now that you guys have explained this to me , I think I would like to get it in working order. I am my fathers daughter, so I have no need to use this razor personally, but maybe my son (18yrs old) will appreciate it someday. Until then I can keep it for display and it will keep me close to my dad with a good memory.

I hope I am responding in the correct area of this message. It’s my first day here with you guys. I appreciate your help and your condolences. My dad was awesome and it is tearing me up going through his stuff . I want to take care of his things with respect like he took care of everything . So I do think I want to restore this if I can figure that all out. I want it to be the best it can be. I will keep his strop also from when he was in barbering school. I suppose it will be for display until I learn how to use it sometime down the road. Thanks for your direction. I really appreciate it.

If your son would be interested in learning this age old art. I will pay for the restoration including shipping to and from the restorer of my choice ( he's very good).
You will find that if you click on cudarunner (In Orange) that you can then send me a 'PM' which will allow you to send me a message.
Please do so.
If you decide that the razor should only be displayed then perhaps you might get some idea from this:

Cuddarunner is a honest and kind person that has helped many people and would never do you wrong. Thanks Roy for the fine offer. I hope she takes you up on it. A young man shaving with a straight from his grandfather would be a wonderful thing.
If you find he wants to learn to use it be sure to send him to us. We will be happy to get him started the right way. It's just Sharpening, right?
