That looks like someone closed the razor and gave it a few taps with a hammer to make sure it was closed.

I have done that before.. As in breaking scales trying to get the scales tighter but if you have ever owned a Koraat it should be a long time before they become loose...

I would say from my experiences that almost all the wedge end scales that; damage like that is caused by shoving the razor into a too small space/ box,
That is from looking about two hundred razors, quite a few coming to me in, not original, too small b. boxes/ coffins.

It was in it's original plastic box in a plastic sleeve and was in a priority box with bubblewrap and peanuts. A 2-day priority box which took a few weeks or so.
Box was undamaged, so I wonder just how hard it was slammed or how high it was dropped from.

Hard to tell now but could have been a case of warped scales that cracked when the seller tried to close the razor to ship? Maybe the tension from warped scales caused them to crack during shipping?

That was by far the most pristine Kikuboshi Supreme razor I've ever seen. That Supreme was in NOS condition, well-packed, and every bit as perfect (well, 99.9% so) as the day it left some Japanese factory over 50-60+ years ago.

    So freaking sad.

Dang Tom!! Sorry but i was in bed shortly after my OP last night and quickly saw your post.. Home from work now and took a good look at those broken scales you received.. What a damn shame, cant imagine the look on your face after seeing that!! Sorry to see that brother... My wife gave me a hand on getting a few drops of super glue on my Koraat scales.. It will work short term but the nice snug n tight pinning Ulrik does the pressure of just opening/closing scales will bring that break open again.. E- Mailing Ulrik tonight/tomorrow and im sure i will end up sending razor to him for new scales... Take care all. SMW

Yeah, I am going super-glue for a while. I will find some black scales with flat-tops and grind the reliefs for the rubber on the tang to clear and attempt an inlay transfer. At least the blade seems fine.

Though its completely off my original thread post ive enjoyed a few members stupid scar abd cut stories.. So ill join in.. After deciding to go from DE shaving to Straights I purchased a couple second hand store razors that after having about 2 days realized i needed a new razor that was ready out of the box. Felt like a kid before Christmas waiting the 4-5 days it took to end up in my hands.. I had read so much,, watched so many videos, visualized for hours!.. Gonna be a piece of cake... Well I had the razor out of oackage and in hand within 3 minutes, had my brand new mirror in my bathroom, new razor, brush, cream, dish, towels and my shave bible that had illustrations for my 1st shave.. I was ready baby!! Until i had face lathered, using left hand to tighten skin below my side burn, looking down at illustration and my razor unnatural and uncomfortable in my right hand... My razor hand starts to tremble moving closer to my skin, get mm's away with shaking and sweaty hand, closer, closer.. Cant see if the edge is lined up with sideburn, turn my head in the mirror without taking the razor away from area .. One 2- 3 inch turn of my head results in a new very sharp razor slicing almost a 1/4 inch through the top of my ear tragus.... Boy do those ear slices bleed like crazy for a long time! Didnt want to go to our ER because i worked there and would not hear the end of it so thankfully my good buddy ER Dr Mark was home and took care of me.. Lesson on that novel i just wrote?? When new (and even not new) keep your edge away from any part of your body until ready to shave and put all other distractions away and focus only on your shave... Thanks for anyone who made it through my full story... Peace all !! SMW
