Thread: Hitler Straight Razor.

I recently purchased a straight razor that has a Nazi symbol and a picture of Adolf Hitler on it and the words Adolf Hitler on it. The story I was told was Hitler gave these away as campaign favors when he was working his way up the Nazi party before he was dictator.The blade has the Melchior and Co. Solingen. I looked this company up and they were in buisness up to 1939. Do you think this is real ?

I am not trying to offend anyone by asking about this item. i take no politicial veiws on it, just trying to learn it's history.

That's very interesting. Not sure how I feel about it. The razor is certainly a piece of history if it is authentic. However, with family members who are Holocaust survivors I would be hard-pressed to shave with it or even own it. But that is a personal decision.

Might be good for a museum.

Well, it is what it is. I think its an interesting piece of history - even if its from a horrible episode. Are there any universities near you? Maybe they have a prof. that could steer you to resources where you could learn more about the razor.

Wish I knew how it got from there to here. The funny thing is when I checked the Melchior & co. It showed the compony being in buisness from about 1911 to about 1939 manufacturing straight razors. But they were listed as being in Chicago Illinois.

There was a strong pro-Nazi stream in the US up until the war. Ford and Lindberg (respectively) received the highest and second highest awards a foreign citizen could receive from Germany, while the National Socialist party was in power. Therefore, I'm not surprised that a US manufacturer was contracted to work for Hitler and/or his supporters. Another explanation would be that Melchior could have been an immigrant from Germany. Boker is a great example of a German manufacturer working in the US.

I read that the alloy used in the frames for Parabellum pistols was made and delivered by our pals at DuPont. I believe we stopped shipping stuff to Germany in '39, But the Parabellums were built from NOS components through '42.
