Thanked: 0Back in ebay's nascent stage, it seemed there was a plethora of Hitler penknives up for sale. From memory, the image and text on them were rather similar to that which is on the razor scales. The tale that went with them was also that the knives were given to party loyalists and high-ranking members. At the time I had found a web page that explained the history of them as being post-war British-made, or Chinese knock-offs of a knife that was originally British-made.
Hitler was rather specific about how his image was used and there were laws against putting it on what was considered kitsch. Usually when it did get used, it was photographic or a profile image a la dead presidents on a coin. None of this means your razor wasn't a campaign reward, of course. Just offering insight.

I'm sorry I ever posted on this thread! The lack of sensitivity on a couple of posts here is a bit disturbing and I wish to have no further part in this thread!

The Swastika is also from Asia, an ancient symbol originally used to show the Wheel of Life much like the Yin-Yang or Tai Chi. Such a shame that it was bastardized by a hateful group. It is still depicted in Hindu and Buddhist sculpture - certainly not as a hateful symbol.
Obviously, this use is associated with the Nazis. I smell a fake here, as mentioned, there were rules to the use of Hitler's likeness and this does not seem historically accurate - but I'm no expert. Could be an old blade in repro scales. Having read a lot about the rise of the Nazis and the condition of Germany (newly out of WW1 in a horrible economic depression) I don't see this as a likely "campaign" handout. Also, having visited the Dachau Death Camp, I can't say I have ANY fondness for Naziism - hell, I'm a libertarian, how could I?!? However, I am interested in history - but not in a knockoff that seems to promote the Nazis. I am afraid that this is the intent of the seller in this case. (Not necessarily of the purchaser, "Together", though.)Last edited by Dewey; 08-13-2007 at 03:39 PM. Reason: ranting on.....

I think it would be better used as a teaching tool...to show how insidious propaganda can be. No artifact of history should be destroyed - no mater how evil. They are the best sources of fact that history is real.

Mark, sorry if it appeared like I was trying to pick a fight. I just get shocked every time people display their forgetfulness of the Rwanda massacre and pretend like it never happened and sometimes I react strongly to it.

FWIW... If there is a hell then Hitler and his crowd are roasting in its deepest pit. The Jews are still here. I'm mostly agnostic (a "Recovering Lutheran" ) But I, for one, take seriously the passage in the Bible:"I will bless those that bless you and curse those that curse you." The nazis went the curse route and look what happened to them and Germany. I may be quoting that passage out of context, however, but...
I also read or heard sometime back that the nazis perverted the swastika by reversing its direction and displaying it on its corner rather than the edge. Don't know if that's factual but thought I'd toss it out.

Yes, the swastika is a good luck symbol in Buddhism and Hinuism, representing the sun. But there, it is flat on its arms and going clockwise.
