Thread: Favorite size?

I am just starting out with a 5/8 which seemed the logical way to go.

Wow. Seems like the general opinion is 6/8". I have a couple of 5/8' and I use them a lot, but I like my big blades more. I also have a really thin 3/8" or 1/2" HMC Cutlery razor. I've shaved with it, and it does a decent job. It just doesn't feel right somehow, so I rarely use it.

My preferred razor is my sharpest one, at the moment that is my 11/16 Friodur which is so &%@#! sharp (honed by me I'm proud to say) it occasionally just digs itself into microbumps on my face to cause little nicks.

Exactly. Sometimes I pull out my TI 5/8 and get a great shave and it's my favourite because it's so lithe and nimble ... then I take out my 7/8 Filly and I love the heft and the plow-through. Oh, decisions, decisions.

I like the heavier blades - I guess that means larger for the hollows (8/8 Friodur is my favourite, although I'm not sure that's entirely to do with the size). But, if it's a wedgy grind I don't mind smaller - 5/8 or 6/8 is good.
