This is exactly what I do after I test shave a razor before mailing back to the owner or buyer.
I soak the blade in a half full bottle of alcohol and the but mineral oil on the blade and wrap it in cling wrap before packaging it up and mailing.

Thanked: 26Just wanted to add something here that i remember reading some time ago, At my place of work there are various dilutions of Isopropyl alcohol and one day i was doing some reading on the reasons for the differing dilution levels. One thing that was an 'ahhh i see' moment was this.
"Disinfecting pads typically contain a 60–70% solution of isopropyl alcohol in water. Water is required to open up membrane pores of bacteria, which acts as a gateway inside for isopropyl. A 75% v/v solution in water may be used as a hand sanitizer."
Even though at first i thought that stronger would be better and more potent at killing unwanted organisms, it seems that is not always going to case.

Agreed stev: I also thought a higher concentration of rubbing alcohol would be a better disinfectant. Not so. A 70% concentration is better and the germ killing actually occurs during the evaporation from the steel.

Thanked: 96I use baricide. Only the blade. Besides, it looks cool sitting on the sink. Just like a old barber shop. I prefer to drink the alcohol after a shave.

First off I am a newbe when it comes to straights. However, I know that the use of bleach to kill certain bugs is common. Labs use it with water to wipe down counters and backpackers use it to make good clean drinking water.
Has anyone used it on straights? Will it harm the blades? I really don’t know. Maybe some of you do.
