Thanked: 335I'm having a most difficult time trying to stanch this urge to mess with Texas.

I am still playing with blades to see what I like the best, but so far I am leaning toward 6/8 and 7/8 as my preferred size with a square or Spanish tip, no round tips. I have a closely trimmed beard so no nose or chin trims just cheeks and neck, for now, but I see a goatee in the future. I have used smaller, all the way down to 3/8 and up to 8/8. My best shave has come from a Spanish point stainless Henckels in 7/8 with my Morley’s and an old Chicago cutlery extra hollow ground in 6/8 a close second. I used a 5/8 Dovo and found it to shave very nice as well. I liked it better than the 6/8 TI.

I started with 5/8 a few months ago and felt then that 6/8 was too wide for me to control well. Since I started using the 7/8 Fillie, I have grown to like the wider blades. Even though big and substantial, the filarmonica does not feel unwieldy. It feels smaller in my hands, if that makes any sense.
More recently, though, I have been growing to appreciate the swedish framebacks. Very light, but stiff, like a thin wedge. The wide taper of the blade is, for me, the best of both worlds - the thin heel works great under the nose while the point has more heft.

My problem is solved. My one 7/8 razor is on it's way to it's new home in Manitoba. It's replacement will be more of the size I like.

I'll finally get a chance to try out a big blade. I broke down earlier today and bought a spanish point 8/8 Friodur. Can't wait to try it out!
