I have owned several of each, if it says anything, I still have a Froidur.
both are excellent razors, the fili will feel smoother, but the froidur will hold it's edge longer.
If I had to chose just one, it would be the Froidur.

Thanked: 26I have friends all over Asia from whom I get my Japanese razors. Sometimes, they have these ghastly European razors among the lot of Japanese razors. Oh, the humanity! the audacity! the horror! For getting me the Japanese razors, it's only fair I rid them of these terrible European razors.

Thanked: 4Hmmm. I have one of each in 7/8. The Friodur cuts very well but for a time it nicked my face something fierce - far more than any other razor. I've not shaved with it since my last honing session, so I'll probably know more tomorrow.
The Filly has taken longer to get dialed in but I'm pretty well there. Not happy about the blade grind - The gentle curve of the blade edge is throwing me off since the spine is straight, and I associate curved blades with swayback spines. Time may change my opinion, but if I had to choose between the two right now I would keep the Friodur.

Thanked: 9I'd keep the Filarmonica - mine feels smoother than the Friodurs I have / had
But if you prefer less care and maintenance to smoothness - the Friodur will not stain as easily, and can still be honed fairly smooth
Cheers

Thanked: 3795I have a Friodur and Filly both 7/8 size and I agree with bigspendur that the Friodur is superior and the Filly is touchy to hone.
However, I have to say...
Dude, (note that I never, ever say dude but in this case it fits) do not let any of them go! Good women come and go, but great razors actually do stay with you forever. Sell whatever you have to sell, get a part time job, donate blood or any other bodily fluids, or do anything else to raise the money, but do not let any of them go. I don't care if you don't have a strop. I don't care if you don't have a hone. Buy all three of them, put them safely in a drawer, and look at them every day. They will inspire you to get your priorities straight and in no time you will get a strop and then you will be able to use them. NOS razors don't come around every day and these are some of the best.
Go for it!Last edited by Utopian; 04-24-2008 at 05:01 AM. Reason: typo

Filly! Filly! Filly!
I love my my Filly - it provides the most comfortable shave (for me). However, considering your "predicament" I would keep them all. As they are all great shavers.

I guess it is not that much different. I use a Nakayama to polish my European razors so I guess you could use your Japanese hones on these. Friodurs are generally considered harder to hone so I would start with the Filly unless you are experienced in honing stainless steel.
