    Default Friodur or Filarmonica?

If you could get a NOS 6/8 Friodur or a NOS 6/8 Filarmonica, which would you choose? I have a friend sending me one of each. I don't have a strop or any hones yet but I figure I could sell one of them to fund my purchases. I just need help in deciding which to keep and which to sell.

    I wish I had such a dilemma.

Can you shave with each and see which one you like?

The Friodurs generally seem more common than the Fillys...somone please correct me if I'm off base here.

Wait until you get a chance to hone (if necessary), strop and test drive then the decision should be a lot easier. Keep the one you like and send the other to me as a consultation fee.

I don't have anything to sharpen them yet so I wouldn't be able to shave with either one of them.

Filarmonicas are not being made any longer....but the truth is both are awesome shavers....
honestly...check for imperfections...like staining, grinding, warps...and keep the one that is in better condition.
For the record....i have seen many blades of great reputation that are brand new with some defects like the ones mentioned above....
Anyway you are a lucky dude.

I wouldn't want to learn to hone on either of those. Maybe send them out to het honed.

I have honed Japanese razors profusely. I used to hone European razors but it's been many months.

Tough choice but I would take the friodur. I think it is the superior razor and it is easier to maintain. The filly can be a bit touchy to hone. However, either way they are both super razors.

I recently picked up a nice 6/8 Friodur, Telly, and something about the "stiffness" of the stainless steel blade reminded me of the two Japanese SRs I've used. I mention that because that might be a recommendation in your eyes!

The Friodur has my vote. Excellent shavers. I understand that the Friodur is a little tricky to hone, but well honed Friodurs shave extremely well.
