Thanked: 16*digs up an old thread* I have a CMON Blackie I've been working on cleaning up, eliminated the frown got the toe sharp reset the bevel gone up through an 8k planning to hit it again and go through 16k after I clean up the scales polish it a little better (only 400/600 grit polish on the blade so far) and my new microfasteners arrive to repin it since it has some play.
That being said I was thinking about giving it to a friend who expressed interest in starting to shave with a straight when I went to visit him for new years eve and he came downstairs to find me stropping. We went out to his local barber for a straight shave/haircut and had an enjoyable time.
All these praises have me tempted to be selfish since I know he tends to be one of those guys who prefers everything new but was hoping he could be happy with it if I cleaned it all up for him. However I am happy with my small torrey and AJ Frank (despite its broken tip dropped it )
Anyways happy to have picked up such a nice set of blades for $10.50/pop antique hunting... advantages to a childhood job after school working in an antique store years ago hehehe

Thanked: 13245Honestly I have 6 of them now, and I would not part with a single one...
In fact the only razor I am still actively hunting is the C-MON Vintage Cadillac...
I would rate them in the top 10 brands of razors out there in the vintage market place....

Thanked: 4942By many, the old C-Mon razors are as cherished as the DD's.
You didn't hear that here. They are not good. Don't buy one. Really tricky to hone. Ordinary shaver.........
Have fun,
Lynn

Thanked: 174YOU PUT IN YOUR MAXIMUM BID AND WALK AWAY.
Why do you need a snype program to do this. Put in your maximum bid in e bay and walk away.
Please tell me the trick I am missing. Am I being stupid. I really do not see the added advantage.
Honest, I don't understand.
If you outbid my maximum, I'm not disappointed. When I say a maximum I mean what I say.
How does a snype program help.
If you go to a "real" auction and don't have a maximum in your mind, the excitement of the auction will often lead you to spend more than is sensible. That is what the live auction is all about.
But if you know this, why electronically would anybody not consider the true value before they make a bid.
The truth is you will only win with a snype if you place the maximum bid.
Think about it!
Never understood it, never used one and never lostt an item I really wanted.
Yes I've lost by $1 but that was alawys one $ more than I thought the item was worth.
That doesn't upset me. In fact always after the event I fel happy because I usually set my max too high.

It has to do with the time it inputs the bid. In ebay, when you use the max bit feature, and someone else is using the same feature. It will automatically go up to which ever person has the highest bid. With the "snipe programs" it will wait till the last split second then input the bid, hopefully, too late for the bid to be increased by the other party.
I have a new "c-mon" but it is a DOVO, with a C-mon stamped on it.

Thanked: 13245English the other huge difference is that the snipe never goes in until in my case the last 4 seconds ... so lets say you and I are in chat and we are talking about C-MON razors and you say "I saw one that I put bid on here is the link" Now I have a snipe set and it is $1 lower than yer max bid.. I can pull my snipe up until 6 minutes before the end of the auction that way I don't drive up a friends bid for no reason...
This is a secondary reason but it does happen quite often with us chat crazies...
Say I have a snipe set but 3 days later I find a better one I can pull the snipe and re-set it on the new one.. where with a standard bid yer stuck...

I've got a history question. The two on ebay right now. C-MON WEDGE STRAIGHT EDGE RAZOR - eBay (item 230321054151 end time Jan-28-09 18:42:40 PST)
Both say peter j michaels. Does that mean they aren't the vintage cmon, since my brand new one says the same thing. Or are they still using the same name even though they didn't make them.

Thanked: 13245PJM didn't "make " the vintage ones either from my understanding
The C-MON name is probably from Carl MONkhouse but I am not positive about that ...
The vintage blades might have been actually made at any one of the many razor makers, I have heard S.R. DROESCHER, Kohler, Dovo, even ERN but I don't know for sure...
What I do know for sure, is that they are very smooth, very consistent shavers....

I found a c-mon Blackie and c-mon fromm through this old school barber supplier, is there a specific way to tell whether they are vintage or not. They are the last ones in stock and are priced at $85 each. The blackie has black scales with ornate silver inlays and the c-mon fromm has both names cream colored scales with ornate gold inlays. Any thoughts? Are they worth the price? -Thanks
