There is of course a problem with this type of question: it presumes beforehand that there is a single razor that everyone agrees actually is the world's finest shaver.

I maintain that this presumption has not been proven true, and moreover, that it is not true. I went through this with DEs, searching for that one razor that was the best (not for everyone, just the best for me). I discovered that there were many very good razors that would give me very good shaves, and sometimes even approaching perfection in shaving excellence. But no one razor would give me a perfect shave every single day. Too many things changed: face, beard, prep, condition of blade, lather, etc. So you simply get a good selection of equipment that is all good quality, maintain it well, and which has different kinds of features. (In the case of str8s, for instance, heavy, light, scary sharp, sharp but smooth, wide, narrow, wedge, half-hollow, full-hollow, etc.) Then, for a given shave, select the combination of equipment that your experience tells you is the right combination for that particular shave. Then, as Oscar says, enjoy your shave!

It depends how you define the best razor. Do you mean the one that gives you the best shave? Do you mean the one with the rarest scales? Do you mean the one that costs the most?Do you mean the one that costs the least? Do you mean the one with the most exotic metal? Do you mean the one you just like the best? Do you mean the one that fits best in your hand? Do you mean...(just fill in the blank).

I don't think there is any such animal.

There are exceptional razors out there, but what is right for me is too big for most, and possibly too smal for others. Where I may like this feature others may hate it.
Keep searching and you may find a razor that is perfect for you, I have. Of course that doesn't mean my search has ended, I'm always looking at razors.

I thought HE once proclaimed the TIPTLE best, too. NO?

The history of these razors is aparent, as is their legacy.
The 7 razors of the honing lords have the power to attract great collections of razors, although their ability to shave is not known, what is known is that 4 of the 7 have been lost or destroyed, most likely killed by the dreaded faucet. I believe I had one of the 9 in my posession about a year ago, but alas it slipped through my fingers before I had recognised it for what it really was. (It was cleverly disguised as a 7/8 W&B frameback.)

And finally the one razor... I am dilligently working to prove that I am in posession of this razor, but it has eluded my attempts to unveil it. It clearly holds power over all razors in it's presence, providing the most superlative shaves imaginable... But stubbornly remains disguised as a Henckels 8/8 square point in plain black scales.

This is soooooo true,,, just because my little "Mack the Knife" is my best shaver it doesn't mean that it is going to be your best shaver.....

Okay, I agree with all that's been said, especially that is the last one you just honed perfectly, etc., etc..

But, if someone were to ban me to an island, and I was told I could only take one brand of razor, or razors, .....
