I always imagined their stainless scales would be equal to the weight of the blade. Is this not the case? I haven't held a Wapi yet.
I was trying to imagine something way heavier, since the atomic weight of stainless is *way* less than that of platinum.
I guess my point is that it doesn't make sense to me to have a handle so heavy, when you want the control to be on the blade.

Maybe I am wrong... but I don't think that this "thing" was made to be used... it is a design project that is obviously overprice, to be buy be a special kind of rich - and usually stupid - collector, only to be presented in display to be able to say: I have one...
- btw that must be one of the longest sentence I've written in English

Thanked: 0Read that page again. The sheath is platinum plated ! Doesn't say whether it is electro-plated or more heavily coated.

No one is forcing anybody to buy it, nor is anyone taking more affordable razors off the market because of it. The person who would purchase it does so: a) Because he can afford it. b) As a personal demonstration of his wealth. and c) For the novelty of owning the world's most expensive razor.
I wouldn't lose sleep worrying about it.

Thanked: 0Oh, and if you get a chance check out the rest of that web site. The Damscene straight razor is the only straight razor they produce. Their other products are Trac II cartridge holders and shave sets including a shaving brush, a Trac II holder and stand.

Why not? Patek Phillipe,Audemars Piquet and Lange sell Platinum wrist watches that cost $250,000-AND SELL EVERY ONE THEY MAKE
Try to go into a Ferrari Dealer and find a NEW F430 that hasn't been spoken for or a Porsche Carrera GT for about $300K.
ALOT of people-have ALOT of disposable income.Nothing surprises me. It sucks being poor-although dropping $30K on a razor might indicate you need your medications changed

Hey, if I could get people to pay 30K for a razor, I'd do so in a flash. Only I don't have the starting capital to begin and finance a good campaign.
Trust me, I wouldn't lose any sleep over getting stupid people with way too much money to give some of it to me.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Ok i yeah I was joking unfunnyly I suppose earlier. I agree this jewel is not to my taste either. Still I see no reason to berate the option for those who need the status symbol comfort quotient. I would guess my foray into straight shaving has thus far consumed a far greater portion of annual income than the sad sack, bloated, consumer obcessed capitalist pig drug dealer/ computer game designer/wall street....rapper.... on my goodness rantmode: off
Hey I wonder who made the blade?

Dunno. There are more than enough knifemakers who could make a blade like that, and pattern welded steel is not rare.
The blade shape isn't anything special so I doubt it was made by someone who specializes in razors. At least not for the budget you'd have available. If it retails for 30K, the blade budget could easily be 1000$ without hurting, and for that amount of money, the usual suspects could really make somethign special.
And why not wootz or tamahagane. That would have made it even more special.
Also the smith didn;t make the scales, because platinum is very difficult to work with, and totally different from steel.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Thanked: 150I guess I was trying to imply that I couldn't sleep at night charging someone that kind of money for a below average damascus razor with shiny scales.
But then again, I'd never want my work to be an impersonal purchase like that. So, more correctly, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night charging 30k to someone who is worth making a razor for.
