Of course... it is the ultimate WMD against whiskers! I am killing mines almost every morning with my straight! such an effective weapon!

Ive seen it used, its not impressive. I would rather have an open and flexible hand than to make it damn near useless with a straight. The only thing a straight has as an advantage is myth and the fear around it. It will leave scars, but the blade is too thin to cut deep. You shouldnt even concern yourself with it, one of the worst weapons in the world for face to face.

I find bottles to be equally versatile and they are legal in all countries to my knowledge.

I agree with nun2sharp... Straight Razors make terribly weapons. It's dificult to manouver, for sure and it only inflicts terror. If you strike someone with one you'll likely make a nasty cut but unless you are Sweeney Todd you're likely not to impress for efficiency. My thoughts... I'd rather have a heavy stick in a brawl. That or a dull kitchen knife...

The way to use a straight as a weapon is to open the razor and hold the scales in your closed fist with the blade all the way open on the outside of your fist and, obviously, the edge pointing away from you. You can then make punching motions towards the face with a hooking motion. It leaves a nasty cut on the face and arms, if raised in defense. You're not going to kill the other guy, unless you're lucky and hit an artery in the neck, but it will keep an attacker away.

Try a Google Video search of "Capoeira and straight razor"....
You will find some interesting things in there, and No I don't think they are effective in a real life situation but it is cool to watch...

this reminded me of a quote from one of Bruce Lees books on training where he states that someone with a weapon is usually easier to defend against because you typically know where the attack is coming from, because who pulls out a knife and then hits you with the opposite hand. i know that Lee wasn't the first one to state this but i am not a martial arts person so it kind of stuck in my head. (sorry this isn't exactly on topic).

i tried to tell my dad that a straight razor is less dangerous in a fight then a regular knife with a point and he wasn't buying it. i have never been in any significant fight, let alone a knife fight but i can't believe that a straight would be easy to stab with, and slashing wouldn't be all that easy either since the blade doesn't lock. i am in no way trained in such matters though.

I've seen some razor as weapon demos. Not impressed. Unless one would train specifically to use them, and still only against certain types of opponents. On top of that, for fun we have trained vs. razor during edged weapon defenses, because of the decidedly less designed-to-kill nature of the weapon, it tends to be considerably easier to defend against.

Yeah, that's what I thought, the only perks I could see would be the ease which razors cuts skin, and the terror they cause, personally I would much rather go up against someone with a knife than a razor, and I'm not really sure why... :/
