Thanked: 2Please recommend a DOVO
I am looking into the following razors from Vinatage Blades:
Dovo "Dovo-Special", Imitation Tortoise Shell, 6/8" Carbon Steel
Dovo Ebony "Silver Steel", 5/8" Carbon Steel
Dovo "Black Star" Brown Pakkawood, 5/8" Carbon Steel
Dovo Red "Bismarck", 6/8" Carbon Steel
Ps, has anyone done business with Vintage Blades? I was confused on their "Pre Honing" option for their Dovos and need some clarification.
Thanks fellas.

Well, if you are buying it for me. I'll take the Bismarck! Vintage Blades has an excellent reputation or they wouldnt be here! Get it pre honed.

It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain

I have the Ebenholz "Silver Steel" and it is a very nice shaver! But then again you almost can't go wrong with a Dovo. There not the top of the line, but they are for me! May whatever you get give you many great shaves! God Bless!

I have a $55 5/8 Dovo "best quality"
It works perfectly good for me, but the Bismarck is stunning, go for that one!

The pre honed option is something you should invest in if you are new to this and do not hone razors yet. Basically it will get you a razor honed by one of the "honemiesters" which in the case of Vintage Blades I believe is Lynn A. As you read the forums you will see that many new razors do not come from the manufacturer shave ready. If you do not get it honed you may well be disappointed in factory edge. Jim at Vintage Blades has helped me in the past and he would be more than happy to answer your questions if you contact him. Welcome aboard and enjoy your shaves!!

I have the bottom Red Bismarck in 6/8. I got it from Vintage, Wonderful razor, Great shaver, I got mine honed by Lynn, which made it all the better. He hones for vintage. They hold an edge, legendary German steel. You won't be disappointed.
All the scales you choose are nice, I like the Pakawood, but the Red Bismarck with the pearlex inlay just stands out, The gold etching on top is beautiful. IMHO.

Thanked: 77I'd be torn between the Ebony and the Bismark. Do note that the Bismark is a 6/8 and the others you've selected are 5/8. This is the width of the blade in inches (from edge to spine) so the Bismark is a wider blade. Blade width is a matter of preference, but most commonly used and recommended in the absence of a stated preference is 5/8.

I got the Ebony silver steel today, very beautiful razor, so I'm recommending it! The Black star and the Bismark are also good (but a tad more expensive) choices. The best quality is probably also very good (esp. for the price) but it's not as pretty. Still, you should get a very good shave from anyone of those, but the three I mentioned first probably gives you more of an extremely good shave.

DOVO
I just received my first Dovo razor, which I absolutely love! It is the Dovo SS "En Vogue" with the rounded, white Micarta scales--the gold inlays and the rounded scales make it my favorite which I have used or seen within the Dovo line of razors. The way the scales are carved makes it very nice to hold comfortably!
I believe it is one of their most popular blades, but I can certainly see why...
Enjoy your new razor!
