I know when I bought my Winston fly rod, hand made and all that. It came with a fabric pouch and a hard case. Would not have bought it otherwise.

If I spent more than $100 on a NEW razor, regardless of the maker, I would expect some kind of nice packaging. Even if it was a rolled in fabric and tied at both ends.

Wow! A "Winston" rod. That's a blast from my past. I have a Winston rod. I bought it when they were in San Francisco before the company was sold and moved to Montana. I had it made by Doug Merrick, the original owner(there is a chapter devoted to him in Classic Rods and Rod Makers). I have his signature on it. This was the early seventies.

Sorry to bust in on the thread, I just got excited.

I think any small, well crafted item should come in a solid case.

I would expect at least FedEx delivery in a gift wrapped box. Watches and pens at that price point come boxed. It does not say much about pride of workmanship by the maker.

A $3K razor?? I'd expect that baby to come in a Securicor armoured truck with 5 man escort!

That is exactly the reason I don't buy 3K razors. I was thinking about buying 4 or 5 just the other day and then it hit me "Christ, what am I going to do with all that bubblewrap?"

Sounds like a perfect time to do an objective public review of the razor in these forums. Your feelings about the presentation should be part of the review. Feedback like this will trickle back to the maker. You didn't even get a letter about the razor with instructions for care? Gosh, when I bought my Zowada Damascus razor, it came with a neat leather sheath and an instruction note, at least! And for quite a bit less $$$, too.

I really do wonder what some makers are thinking when they package their razors. I've gotten a few customs, none at that price.. yet. that arrived in bubble wrap and i was a little taken aback, while others were in wooden boxes and some in plastic pen boxes... i store razors and transport them in cases... i think the folks who cannot be bothered with proper packages assume that we will place their blades in a glass cabinet for display only.
    Be just and fear not.
