I'll bet you a nickel that I've got worse luck than you =(
Today, I am very, very sad.
I received the news today that my beloved Joe Chandler 7/8 in Carbon Fiber scales has been lost in the mail. I had sent it to Lynn for honing, but unfortunately now I'll never get to shave with it again. Yes, it had insurance, so luckily I will not lose a great deal of money because of it, but a razor like that was really a thing to behold, and now it's gone.
What's worse, is that this isn't the first time this has happened to me! In the past year, I have also lost a gorgeous 6/8 Bengall in Cocobolo restored by Max and a black handled Gillette Superspeed in the mail.
Maybe I should just start hand delivering my packages...Last edited by huntmol; 07-16-2009 at 02:05 AM.

There is obviously only one course of action to take. Shoot yourself
...or, with the insurance money, get on the horn to chandler to make you a razor and have that razor sent to max for scales and then...
...learn to hone your own razors!
Sorry to here about that by the way.

Ouch!! You win your nickel and I really feel for you, mate!
I just received my own custom by Joe (and no, it is not the same then the one which was recently lost in the mail near you..) and I was biting my fingernails bloody waiting and hoping for it to arrive (it was send from one continent to another..) I also bought honing equipment so that I can learn doing this myself and not having to send the razors out for that. Maybe you want to look into that as well, as recommended by another member's post.

Yes, look for the postal employee in your delivery chain with the newly minted bbs cheeks.
More seriously, sorry to hear about your loss. We depend on the mail for a lot of things, and it's a disappointment when the system breaks down.
Who knows, maybe it will turn up for you to recover one day, like those stories of old wallets and rings and such.

I just might do that, if anyone could PM me with his web site, email, or telephone number I think I'll definitely contact him about eventually purchasing a replacement. I'll try to contact him through SRP, but I think he's been off for a few weeks.
lol, if he didn't before this he sure does now!
Anyway, thanks for all the kind comments guys.
Let me be a lesson to you - always insure anything over $20.

hope for the hopeful?
Never give up.
I purchased an old 1937 TI from someone and had it shipped, (with delivery confirmation but without insurance) to my house. A couple of days went by, and I expected it any day. The USPS tracking system is extremely inept, so I have grown to not trust it. However, on this occasion, the system stated delivered when no such package had been delivered. I spoke to just about everyone at the post office, and got the ultimate answer that it had been lost. I felt so frustrated. In the afternoons, when I could catch her, I kept asking my mail carrier,"Do you, by chance, remember this one package a few weeks ago?" LOL of course she had no such memory. I was just grabbing at straws. Well, somehow, about a month and a half later, the razor arrived at the door. No explanation of where it had been. The post mark date matched up with the original send dates. The blade in good condition. I was elated! I didn't ask any questions.
Maybe in the not too distant future, some mail worker will find your missing package in between the seats of the van. Then that package may find its way to you. Here's to hope.
