Thread: Mineral Oil for the Razor Blade

Hi Obie
I only oil the blades I am not using for 3 days or longer. I tend to use a specific straight for an extended period of time before rotating and that one, while in daily use, is not oiled.
I am using Ballistol mineral oil which I get from Martin at Rasurpur.de - Rasiermesser und mehr aus Frankreich & Solingen. If I run out of that one, I use Johnson's baby Oil, which is also Mineral Oil. Since the goal is to achieve BBS, Baby Oil can't hurt.. ;-)

Mineral Oil . . .
My dear Jeff,
Thank you for the information. I like the baby oil idea.

Thanked: 1195Hey Obie,
In response to your query:
1. I use a generic brand of 100% Heavy mineral oil, commonly found at a large drug store chain here in Canada, and is about as pure as you will get. I would not recommend using anything lighter as it will not be as efficient rust inhibiter. At least the bottle is huge.......
2. I oil my razors after every use. The conditions here can be dry enough to suck the moisture out of sand, but it's still a good habit to get into.

I rarely use oil, however I recently Restored an old
Kaufmann
and man that blade seems moisture sensitive, I had to repolish the blade because the water from Honing left spots!
So on this blade I am trying Olive oil, its not mineral obviously but seems good so far
Has anyone else tried it?

I think most mineral oil sold in drug stores and labeled as such is made for internal use. Many use it as a laxative.
