Was the razor you're talking about made in Jersey City for sure? Or was it a razor made for a business in Jersey City? If it's the latter I think it would be hard to find information about the particular razor you're thinking about. I know I see razors floating around with Omaha, Nebraska on the tang but they weren't made in Omaha. A company in Omaha contracted with Solingen and had them made for them, with Omaha stamped on the tang.

I guess my advice would be to check ebay frequently for razors with Jersey City on the tang, and visit flea markets and antique stores in your area. Check bordering cities/states as well.

I believe that might be a shavette, meaning it takes disposable razors

I've seen one before, but I've already passed her on to the next owner. Here are some pictures. I'll keep you in mind if I ever find another.

Durham Duplex made hair shapers for barbers and stylists. You see them on ebay with the big guards on them. Nothing suitable for shaving AFAIK. Oddly enough they also bought Wade & Butcher and mfgd them in Jersey City as well as England and France IIRC.

I have a W&B safety razor made in USA which would mean in Jersey City. Whether they made any W&B straights in JC I don't know. I've not seen a USA marked W&B straight.

Interesting stuff, Jimmy. I'd thought the arrow and such on the blade I had was an imitation, because it doesn't quite match other W&B logos that I've seen.

Dylan, that is a really cool example. So W&B did mfg straights in Jersey City. I used to work out of the ironworker's local 45 in JC. Up the stairs above Weber's Tavern back then.

Just a note on the Durham Duplex. It was, indeed, a shaving razor. It was patented, marketed and sold as a "safety razor". The comb-like attachment was to keep the blade at the proper angle and hopefully prevent nicks and cuts. It's possible use as a hair shaper came about much later, and not as its principle function.
