I like this thread. I have thought about picking up one (Or a couple to make sure I get a decent one)

Even if you pick up two, both will probably be no good. They will most likely need some heavy work on the stabilizers , which are way too thick. But once past that, they aren't half bad actually...

He means that every single time one of these threads start, they tend to march right down the same road...

Some people love them, some people hate them..

Like everything else on here that causes a rift like that, it is because they are inconsistent, hence some are good, some are bad, which is why we recommended in the first place that they were not a "Good" buy even at the price you can get them, because of these inconsistantcies...Especially as you already learned, in the honing department, as most need serious work to be made into shavers, either on the shoulder or the spine

Because of that every thread about them has a tendency to go just the same way this one is starting to head...

Good info Glen. Now this thread is just to document my experience with my particular Gold Dollar, which sure needed some heavy work before it was usable. But it ended up decent actually.

So any GD hater out there, don't post here, this will be a fairly objective thread documenting using a GD for quite a few days, good and bad...

I'm new at this, and I do have a GD, along with several other razors. Could someone explain exactly what work typically needs to be done to a GD? Maybe with a diagram? I have a belt grinder, so whatever needs to be done will be easy, but I'd like to know I'm just doing what is necessary. Let me know if this should be a new thread.

Usually it's the stabilizers that's needs to be grinded own.

I never understood why these threads go downhill, it doesn't have to be that way folks...
