Thanked: 14Good point.
Quenton, after shipping, you are looking at $283. Not sure if you will have custom's tariffs and duties, but if so, the $1.83/unit is a bit moot. Probably closer to $3+/unit. Of those, you will have to rework more than a few, which has been shown in other posts. Problems include cracked scales, high shoulders, uncentered blades. If you are hoping to sell them cheaper than what the guys online are selling them for, it means best case scenario you are going to make around $400.
You mentioned $15 not going to waste. I think there was $5 in the shipping. That HK guy was selling them for 10bucks I believe. How long selling 100 razors will take is anyone's guess. I am thinking you are not going to be able to go thru 100 razors too quickly. Maybe some of the guys doing this as a side business could let you know how many they sell per month. For all the work, I think it is easier to make money elsewhere.
However, as Seraphim mentioned, if you are just helping the newbies out, then good on you. I don't think anyone would complain if we had more people interested in straight razors. More hones, strops, dvds, higher quality razors, soaps, etc would probably see sales increases with more customers out there. I am not in the business, but if you can help generate new interest by selling the razors for little to no profit, I've got nothing negative to say. Thanks for the post.Last edited by Shangers; 10-21-2009 at 03:51 PM.

Thanked: 2Are offering to organize a group buy? That sounds good. If the shipping does turn out to be $100. Then that would be $2.83 per blade. Next calculation would be the shipping cost within USA which appears to be around $4. To be safe it can be made to be $5. Plus packaging would be another $0.50 to a $1. So the total would be about $8 per blade. If buying one. It'll be cheaper to ship multiples, which is what most people will likely order. I'd like to try a pair of 200s and a pair of 800s once the 800s are actually manufactured.

Seraphim, perhaps I wasn't clear. I know exactly how much work kenrup puts into his razors and he stands behind them. I have tried to hone an old razor at one point and realize it is difficult, but not rocket science as some would claim. I was simply trying to help the members of this forum not a "business model" as you stated. Did you not see my title as "group buy"? In a previous thread it seemed many members were very interested in doing a group buy but could not get anyone from golddollar to respond, maybe things have changed but no contact was listed in that thread. I'm a new member but have been lurking for sometime. I said constructive critisizm not someone making me out to be a vendor or Mr. Parko. I have nothing but good intentions for everyone here including you. I love this forum and there are some great folks in it. And free market economy, if that were my goal (which it's not), is what sets America apart from the communists. Competition is what keeps prices fair after all, monopolies aren't good for anyone.
I will keep everyone posted when I get confirmation on the shipping.

The only issue with your calculations is that to carry the 200 model, one would have to purchase another lot of 100 of them, at say the $5/each price tag they come with. And same with the 800 model, which costs ~$17 each, which means an outlay of $1,700 per batch of 100 of those, plus $100 shipping.
If you look at your above calculations, the $8 you quote is actually quite similar to the $10 price currently available through Mr Parko, or Stamps222 (as long as it doesn't get bid up).

I will do my best to make heads and tales of this, however the only model I'm interested in is the entry level as that is similar to the one I bought from ruprazor and it seems to be a good one. It tugs a little much at times but that may be because of my forest of a beard. I'm gonna send it back to ruprazor for a touch up. He stands behind his stuff and is a really cool guy. His entry level philly strop is awesome, can't wait to buy his top of the line model.
Back to the "hopeful" group buy, I will keep everyone updated. If any newbs are interested in a "ready to go" package I recommend ruprazor as your introduction to straight shaving as I know from experience it works.

Just in case anyone missed this, without going too OT, this is a great buy. It is where I started, and I still occasionally use that strop and razor for travel where I will not be able to limit who has access to my stuff (read...family that doesn't respect proprty of others)
