I posted that very same suspicion about 6 months back.

    That would be quite interesting.

    Purely hypothetical here:
A guy drops $200 on a new "Philly" labeled Gold Dollar, and gushes about how great the shave is.

A guy drops $10 on a Gold Dollar labelled Gold Dollar, gets the same fine edge (they do take nice edges...but I'm biased FWIW), but since it came from China, and only cost $10, it gets the cold shoulder...

Right, the old stuff is obviously different than the new ones offered, which is why it is so interesting.

The only difference I can see from that one picture and looking at the Filly on Classic is that the Filly's tip of the toe at the spine is ground at an angle, where the Chinese razor from what I can tell seems to be square at the tip.

Can you imagine if it really was the case that the Filly sold now was manufactured in China? Or, Could that Chinese razor be a Filly knock off?

I wouldn't think they are making the Filly in China, but don't quote me on that. The tang and tail look to have better lines on the Filly.

It is more likely that the Chaoba (超霸剃刀) is knocking the Filly off. That said, the higher priced Chaobas (about $25) are using imported 440c steel, so there must be a reason why they are bringing that steel in.

A couple months ago I phoned a cutlery in a nearby town and they told me they had a Filly #14 for 100€ I told him to reserve it for me, and the next day I went there to get it. But when I had it in my hands, it was VERY different to the one I already have. It was about 2-3 mm bigger, mine is exactly 24mm wide. With the blade closed, a good piece of blade was sticking out from the bottom of the scales. The words "Fabricacion española - Made in Spain" in the tang, which in my Filly are carved, were "printed" instead (serigraphy is the word?)

It had a totally different feeling than my Filly, so I didn't buyed it. Could it be a fake, or simply the latter straights made by Filarmonica are of poorer quality?

Gold Dollar, Double Arrow or any other incaration, these are great shavers. I had a GD for two weeks ( my son saw it and immediately fell in love with it, a Seraphim custom, so I gave it to him) and it shaved great. I'm now using an H.M. Christensen and Dovo Special terporarily and must say that the GD is at par with these fine shavers. O.K. the scales suck, but that's where Seraphim saves the day.

    Default Gold Dollar/Gool Dollar

Try eBay #150378770166 I emailed a week or so ago and they re-listed them but with the wrong spelling. I have not shaved with mine in a wile because of all the razors I am working on but it is a good shaver. Use "see other items" they have black scales also.

I just finished shaving with one of 2 Gold Dollars I received this week. I honed them up and they took a bevel well and sharpened up faster than any blade I have honed. It was as close as " the perfect shave" that I have had since starting shaving with a straight.
I have been fooling around with a number of blades that I have ( not many 4-5 restored vintage), and these by far are very nice shavers. I can't wait to put these bad boy in some decent scales.
