STOLEN RAZOR
Yes, human bone was used sometimes for utility items in the last century. Very poor people sold cadavers for utility items like scales for knife, razor, and simple thngs.
What is even more bizarre, read about what happened to Tecumseh the famous American Indian leader after he was killed in 1813. Razor strops were made of his skin! Henry Clay of Kentucky is reported to have owned one of them.
I thank you for attention given to my theft. I didn't mean to shock anyone. I did post the razor in the general forum a couple of weeks ago in response to a member's posting about using human bone for razor scales. rrr

How do you know the scales are human bone? I have at least one very old razor that has bone scales that look similar.

I do hope you get your things back, and the local authorities make strops of their hides. With everyone on the board watching ebay I think you may have a good chance of recovering it. You might also try the local Antique shops and flea markets as well.

Man, that's awful. I'll keep an eye on the internet, but it may be a year before they go through several buyers and make it onto eBay.
I strop my razor with my eyes closed.

On a slightly lighter note...

STOLEN RAZOR Bone Reply
Last year I took the razor to swap meet. One of the antique dealers (retired orthapedic surgeon) told me it was human bone most likely. He took out in the bright daylight for another look and made the same evaluation. He told me first about the use of human bone for things. I later Goolged~human bone/tissue uses. Amazing in one regard, ghoulish in another. The way the world is now, it doesn't surprise me that human parts are sold. There are news stories of people selling a kidney for cash, and stories of kidneys being harvested from unwilling victims. "It is a jungle out there"...Be careful with whom you hang out with! These are desperate times~STOLEN RAZOR.

Turns out its legal to buy and sell human bone in the US. Someone with skill needs to get on that for scales.
