Thanked: 0best razor on the market
hey all, i currently own a filarmonica 13 doble temple wich is in need of restoration due to rust and stains, but at the same time im interested in a new razor. what, in your opinion, is the best razor on the market today. ive looked at the new dovos and thiers hizzard but not sure how good they are.

Of those two I like the TI but the Dovos are good too. I just happen to like the style of some of the TIs. The steel as well. That latest Silverwing with the French point and rams horn scales is lovely and mine shaves great. The Spartacus with the bone scales, barber's notch and worked spine is killer too.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

+1 on the TI. Dovo also makes some nice stuff. Depends on your pocket book. You can get a Mastro Livi Damascus for over 1000.00 You can get a Bergisher Lowe (Dovo) for about 200.00 more of less. Both are top notch. I guess the "best" is subject to debate here. Many would say the customs, Williams, Livi, Earl, Zowada, etc...

Well, you can't have the best one! It's mine!
As with most things here, it really depends whatever you like - there's differences in size, grind, finish and materials. You could ask 100 people and get 100 different answers. What do you want in terms of the razor? Do you seek good shave, wow effect of beauty, or just price tag to impress?
I think everything is catered by current manufacturers, not to speak about the custom makers. You could order one with all the bells and whistles you want.

If you just want a very solid, quality razor that will get the job done, for value I don't think you can beat the Dovo Best Quality. They retail new and shave ready from SRD for about $70, and with the deals they are running right now you can't beat the value for money. Anything more than that and you are (largely) paying for frills like point, name, gold wash, high end scales, etc.

Thanked: 953Actually on this forum, if you ask 100 people, you'll get 300 answers.
My three (at the moment):
1. NOS filarmonica doble temple 13 (NOT the classic shaving version) 6/8s
2. Friodur 70 1/2 roundpoint 11/16s
3. ATOR 915 7/8s roundpoint
4. Regeldso 6/8s spike point
(hey, one of the 100 is going to give you two so I'm stepping up to fill the breach)

Honestly, if Wapis had a pointier french point, they would be perfect in my book. I think 5/8 quarter hollow nicely balances the maneuverability of a small 3/8 or 4/8 blade with the heft and cutting power of a hollow ground 6/8 or 7/8. I just like the point for trimming around details.

Thanked: 293I'd say the OP already has one of the best razors available. Of all my razors, the Spanish ones seem to really impress.
