what's so bad about a flattened spine anyway? is it just aesthetic? or does it cause some problem in stropping/honing/bevel setting? and what is a "worked out bevel"? thanks.

+1 on that. I am aware of the problems which could be caused by a pit or rusting edge, chips, and cracks alike, but I wasn't sure what problem a flatten spine posed, or what a worked out bevel was.

Congrads on the find. It looks like a beautiful razor. I seem to be caught in the ebay struggle which is talked about all over SRP. The razor in good working order, are usually very expensive, or grabbed up very quickly. Leaving some decent quality razors which need some TLC, or the ones I fear the most, the unsavable razor which a newbie like me wouldn't necessarily be able to spot.

I've done a lot of reading on this side, so I'm hoping I don't get taken for too much of a ride.

i compare the ones on ebay to ones listed here or shown here this one appears to have never been honed or atleast honed by someone in the know.

but i have seen many knicked up razors selling hot as well its like any auction someone will always pay what they feel comfy with, to me $50 is what i was spending on refills for my fusion power and i have overlooked a few on ebay due to bad pictures but there was a recent thread on here that showed a bad looking razor that just needed to be cleaned and now i cannot find the thread it was in

but be careful and ask for more pics if you see something that looks odd, this is new to me as well

IMO, the spine, probably flattened from too much pressure, changes the geometry of the razor leading to a wider bevel. Not that you still can't hone 'em and shave but not ideal. Next time you see one with a significant frown note that it will probably have corresponding spine flattening.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
