Yes. Early retirement is definetely the way to go. Someplace nice, where it is displayed properly and respected. Here, let me give you my address.
Ursus
Squeegee Sanctuary for Retired Razors
(Just kidding. If you continue to use it, it serves its purpose, but it won't hold so pristine forever. It would also depend on what kind of emotional value it has and how it shaves. Your call - do you want to watch it or use it)

+1 to Jimmy's sage advice. It seems a shame to not use something as nice as a NOS DD your friend gave you. As others have said, you'll remember him when you use it, and if you don't use it, someone else will put it to use when you're gone. I say lather up and let 'er do what she was made for!

Thanked: 1185+1 Retiring that razor would be the shaving equivalent of having a mint condition Shelby Cobra 429 that never leaves the garage. If I owned that razor I can assure you I'd probably sooner retire the rest of my fleet and keep that one. But that's just me, I'm a Duckophle.
The older I get, the better I was

That's a great-looking razor Goog.
Personally, I think I would use it, but as part of a str8 razor rotation and then not all the time.
I know that Dubl Duck has great sentimental value for you. On the other hand, my thoughts are that str8 razors exist so that they can be used. Unless you are a dedicated collector of str8 razors, however, i would use it, ever so often--perhaps on those special occasions--birhtdays, anniversaries, job promotions, etc.Last edited by jhenry; 04-22-2010 at 12:19 AM.

Thanked: 1I'd shave with it. It's already part of your life story. If you use it (and take good care of it), you will have a fine razor to use, and a fine friend to remember.
The other choices are:
2. sell it now while it is like new.
3. put it in a drawer.
4. display it.
If you don't shave with it, I think "display it" is the next best thing.

I would use it at least once in a while, its not just the looks that make it worth having.

Thanked: 199I say use it and love it
If you decide not to use it for a while, coat the blade with some baby oil so it doesn't get spotty. Very pretty razor!
