No it's regular stainless steel, the pattern is decorative. I don't know whether the blades are the same, they seemed different to me, but I don't have the statistics to know.

You know, micarta is the material of the scales, once you get rid of it there's no micarta left in the razor whatsoever. Your job now is to come up with a better name. The blade says 'en vogue', so how about envoglex?

I'd go for the perlex myself the micarta is a little thicker in the hands, while the perlex would be more manageable.

Over the last 20 years i have had 3 razor with plastic or Perlex scales. I now own a
Micarta one. It is true that the Micarta scale is thicker but i feel it will probably
last longer. The one that broke all broke at the level of the pivot pin. I might go
for wood scales for the next one.

Are there places that will replace the scale only? I still have 2 broken razors but
the blades are still in perfect shape.

I love my Perlex. It's probably my flagship razor.

Joed does the micarta razor seem well balanced only being a 5/8's?

I like the razor. The scales are thicker by a lot than the average razor. I am not big on balance and it's been almost a year since I last used this razor w/ lots of other brands in between. If you're looking for balance I would look elsewhere. This razor is a good looker and a good shaver but if you are comfortable w/ a well balanced razor I would look at other models. I have other razors that are more off balance like lined scales of which MOP is one as well as others w/ metal scales.
