Dovo Perlex? or Dovo Micarta?
I am currently in the market for a new high end razor. After using my 2 straights I bought pretty cheaply I am sold on the straight razor shave. The 2 I am looking at are the Dovo Perlex
Vintage Blades LLC::Dovo Straight Razors::Dovo Carbon Steel Straight Razors::Dovo Perlex, 5/8" Carbon Steel Straight Razor - Professionally Honed
or a Dovo Micarta
Vintage Blades LLC::Dovo Straight Razors::Dovo Stainless Steel Straight Razors::Dovo Ivory Micarta, 5/8" Stainless Steel Straight Razor - Professionally Honed
Have any of you ever owned or used one of these blades? If so what did you like? Hate? about these razors. Any help would be appreciated.

I've got the micarta and CarrieM has the pearlex. Both are good shavers.

Do be aware the the scales are a bit thicker than on the 'standard' razor but they are still fine.

I think either would be a fine shaver. I own a Dovo "Black Star" (Carbon) and a Henckels Friodur (Stainless) and I love both of them. I also own a Dovo "Red Solingen" with Red micarta scales like those on the Dovo Ivory Stainless and like how they fit in my hand when I am shaving with it.
The real difference, imho, is whether you want to go with carbon steel or stainless steel. The carbon steel is a bit easier to hone, if you diy, but the stainless steel will supposedly hold an edge longer after it is honed.
Just my 2 cents.Last edited by jhenry; 05-07-2010 at 02:12 AM.

I have the perlex. It was my very first new razor purchase. I think it's a great little shaver but i did not use it very long as i found that I prefer larger blades. Everyone i know that has one , likes it very much. talking about it makes me want to take it out and use it for the mornings shave as to remind me of when i first started to shave. You really won't go wrong with either one.

Thanked: 190Tough call on this one. They both shave well, but I think the Perlex is a pretty site day after day and there is something to say about that. No knock on the Micarta, it is a good shave as well.
Both take an edge well as long as you have the right tools to make it so.

I have the Perlex along with a few Ebony Dovo's and their Bergischer. The Perlex is a fine razor - good balance, nice goldwash, and the blade takes a great edge quickly and easily. Either one is a fine choice; I like the Perlex.
