Thread: 7 Day Set?

I was reviewing my shaving rotation and it dawns on me that seven razors
is a pile of razors. I had eight in the active jar and I find that I reach for
a couple over and over.
Since the OP has a single razor that he likes I would shop for another just
like it and in the next month or so find one or two more better than average blades
to join it. I saw a 'black and white' pair recently and thought that
two identical blades with different scales would be handy as heck.
I still think the OP should call the vendor and explore the details. If this
set is the correct grind, shape etc... that matches expectations then it is a
bargain.
Those that are collecting a seven day set all different may be on to something.
I can see more than one razor swap as the sets are built from parts
of broken sets.

Thanked: 12Hmmm, if you could get seven people interested you could buy seven different seven day sets and swap razors around where everybody had a unique set!
I would hate to have to be in charge of trying to set that one up!

If you are dead set on this, I'd recommend trying one, just one. Then try other razors, of different sizes, grinds and makes. When you have found what you like best, then go for a set.
Personally, I have a few razors that I really like, and have them in pairs. If you have razors of good steel and your shaving and stropping technique sound, you don't really need to touch up or hone that frequently.
Another way to look at it is that for the same cost as 7 entry level dovos, you can have a pair of $200 razors or a $400 custom. Also, the hard steel used by most of the custom makers really hold the edge for a long time. I would bet you will need to retouch your 7 dovos used in rotation sooner than one high carbon steel custom used daily.
If you like uniformity, what's better than one daily shaver?

+1 on pairs.
Especially so if you have a new razor that you like a lot.
There is a window when it is easy to get another one just
like the one you have, perhaps with slightly different scales.
On pairs, I find that I always set out two razors for my morning shave.
In my case not identical but "brothers". Yesterday was Swedish
steel day. The day before was gold washed Dovo day. I am cleaning
up the second of a pair of WBs.
The second blade gives me a sharp finisher. I could reach for
the strop but a second blade works for me.
The bargains in my rotation are the German and Sheffield blades that
are branded by all sorts of American outlets, Kansas, New York, Philadelphia
and more.
I think my smoothest shaver is a toss up between an English
or Swedish blade... the Sheffield has a slight edge.
Another advantage of pairs is that it makes room for
my RAD. A seven day rotation becomes 14 blades.
BTW: This is a good link

Thanked: 10Another possibility
Here is another possibility. I don't think it was ever issued as a seven day set but VSR has this 7 day Dubl Duck that looks sweet if you have the money and would give the variety you crave.
