Thanked: 1371I have a lot of blades that are from the second half of the 19th century.
These three are my oldest, all of them were made prior to 1850. At one time I thought that one of them was made pre-1800, but after doing a bit more research I don't think so anymore.
At any rate, these are regular shavers for me, and all of them are creeping up on their 200th birthdays.
Sorry about the pic. If I have time tonight, I might try to get some better pics of these.

When I purchased that razor one of the ivory scales was trashed. I had another piece of ivory from another razor that was trashed on the other side. The holes lined up (way lucky) on the two good halves but the replacement scale was curved like 1900's razors and not straight like the original scales on this razor. I was able to take the curve out of the bottom edge of the replacement scale but the curve on the top went past the top of the original scale so I just matched the curve on the original to the replacement. That's as close as I could get it with the banned ivory. My preference is to NOT do any restoration/replacement on the scales and blade if they are at all usable. If I replace the scales I try to maintain the original design and look. I have played around w/ other materials and designs but replicating the original is still my preference.

That's funny you should bring up old razors, I just acquired an old Warranted maybe 200yrs old. The blade is in good shape, the scales are toast. It's going in for some new pants as the guys say… mmmm something in honey horn?? It will go into my rotation for sure.

Compared to the others in the thread, mine isn't that old, a G. Wostenholm & Sons Pipe Razor.

Moreton & Langley's
My oldest is probably my Moreton & Langley's.
Most likely made after 1850 and probably before 1890.
BTW the shaving mug is about 100 years old.

Approximately 1804.
Till now I don't know about the maker, but very early razor too.
And Joseph Rodgers 1830-37.
I think, these are my the oldest razors ...if I've called to memory all my razors.Last edited by sicboater; 03-11-2011 at 08:41 PM. Reason: advertising

Thanked: 13249This is the oldest one I have messed with
A Flower & Co which from some friend's research was dated at about 1810...
I just used some pretty Cocobolo and then copied the old scales basically...Used some home mixed Beeswax & Lemon oil for a rub in finish
This was never in my rotation but I did get to shave the old Gal and was pretty happy with the edge...

Mine I think is from the late second half of the 1700's. I haven't shaved with it yet as I only got it last week but I'll hone it up on the weekend and give it a run next week.
The uniform of the soldiers is mid 1700's (1750's-1760's) and they are fighting what looks very much like Indians with mohawks.Last edited by johnmrson; 08-27-2010 at 04:21 AM.
