Also, Im going to hone and strop my first razor tonight, I just got done getting the rust off of it, its really beat up, hence why I am starting with it, I am using a very fine smooth stone used for knives, and a strop with two different coarsenesses...is it possible I can pull of(with enough patience) getting a razor shave ready this way? and are there any tutorials on honing and stropping on the site?

There should be some in the WIKI located on the tool bar above under the SRP logo. I'm sure there are some threads in the Honing forum if you do a search. If you are learning I would stick with the WIKI and the Honing forum and avoid the advanced until you get some blades under your belt.

That Clauss is nice and should make a fine shaver. The reddish scaled razor appears to have no rust along the blade edge, which would be expected from cell rot. Clean it up with some 4-0 steel wool and liquid diswashing detergent and see what is under the grime. I would keep it separated from other razors just in case the scales are decomposing, until you know what the case is. Any strange odor from the scales?

Thank you and there is no aparent odor. Steel wool seemed to clean up the outside of the scales a bit, Ill have to try it with dish detergent and see if that helps also. seems like on the inside of the scales it is flaking, making it hard to put the blade away. Could I fix that with maybe emery cloth or wet-dry sand paper?

    Default Fabyon Knife co

If those scales are a plastic then it looks like it was mottled to resemble tortise shell. A lot of cow horn scales were dyed on the inside to resemble the same thing.
Your Genco was made before 1936 when the name was sold to W.R. Case.

I have a Henry Sears with a MOP tang that says Queen on the blade and scales. It is a great shaver.

Really cool scales on the shumate. Are the scales celluloid? what's the patten? Is there a name for it?
