TI Crownwing Opinions Wanted
Hello fellow shavers, I am wondering what opinions are of the 3rd edition limited edition from Thiers Issard. The one that has the mahogany scales.
Any comments about what you liked or wished had been a little different would be appreciated.
Thanks.笑う門に福来たる。

Well pros-mine came really shave ready, scales are straight and sit even, and has a nice balance to it, pins are tight blade is straight, shaves great
cons -one side of the scales are slightly darker then the other, the pins are slightly crushed on one side of both pins and the mahogany wood case that the razor came in has nicer wood then the razor, the razor wood has a very noticeable odd and off smell if you get it even a little wet when shaving which hopefully will diminish,

I'm sure it is a good razor but I wish they had made it with something more exotic than a round point and wooden scales. Their 2nd edition "wing" with the French Point and Ram's Horn scales is lovely and unusual. IMO they should have went with another rare point and stag or horn scales for a limited edition razor.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thiers-Issard Silver Crown
I was lucky to get No 9. Took it out of the box and did not even wipe the oil off of it. I got super results with this blade. Perfectly honed from the factory. It is an excellent size for me to navigate around my face. The scales were even, the pins are a little over seated, but the balance is great. I own a TI Silver Wing, made out of the same material as the CSW. But I like this blade better. It feels better in my hands.

I debated getting this one last month, but instead went with the green maple burl Le Thiernois. I think the CrownWing is a nice "historical" looking razor, but it's just a bit too plain-jane for me for what you pay. Compared to the Celebration SilverWing it just seems a little...flat? I think for the limited editions there should be a bit more flash to them, something that sets them apart.
That being said, I can absolutely guarantee that it would be a great shaver. It has the same C135 steel as two other TI's I have, both of which are some of my best shavers.

I agree it's a superior shaver and I like the size. I think it's pretty perfect except for the price. It really isn't worth the money. But you all know how that goes.

Thanked: 267I have been looking at this razor also. I have a French point C135 full hollow and it is stiff for a full hollow and I feel it is because of the temper of the steel. This razor is a 1/4 grind, if I am not mistaken, and I was wondering what it felt like when shaving? Pretty close to a wedge in feel?
Later,
Richard

I had a Le Canadien in the new carbonsong 135 steel. It was a full hollow as well. But the hard hard steel made it feel like a stiffer razor (what I like actually). The full hollow made it feel very light in the hand as well. I sold it to my regret and have been wanting to replace it with another.
I did place an order today, though not for the Crownwing. I got one of the 1/2 hollow ones in black horn instead. I may still get a Crownwing, as I love the look of the engraved spine, but I thought I would go with the "lower end" version first. Same steel etc. And I also couldn't resist getting a 6/8 in desert ironwood (book matched scales) as well.
These will be my newest additions.

Thanked: 267Seriously, let us know how they shave. It has been almost a year since my last serious razor purchase and these really look promising.
Take Care,
Richard
